2007 was a new year, with a new Head Coach, and some fresh new faces including Chicago native Dominique Canty, free agent Kayte Christensen, Claire Coggins, Chasity Melvin and rookies Armintie Price & Stephanie Raymond who graduated from Northern Illinois University. The addition of Head Coach Bo Overton and rookie sensation Price proved to be beneficial as the Sky’s record improved to 14-20. One of the most impressive displays of scoring capabilities came on June 29 vs. the Sacramento Monarchs. The Sky won the game 92-84 and had multiple players scoring in double figures. Jia Perkins led the way scoring an outrageous 39 points and picking up 10 assists on the side. She took over several games that year including an 84-82 win over the San Antonio Silver Stars where she recorded 27 points and 6 rebounds. Perkins ended her season averaging 11.7 points, 1.52 steals, and 3.3 rebounds per game.

She improved her rebounding skills from the previous year and increased her average up to 7.7 per game. At the end of the season, Dupree ranked among the top 10 scoring athletes in the WNBA.

One of the most exciting stories of the year for the Sky was the fantastic freshman, Armintie Price. Her game was so well versed that she could contribute anywhere on the floor. Price averaged 7.9 points, 6 rebounds, and 2.91 assists per game. If she was not scoring the points, she was creating the opportunity to score. She also played a pivotal role at the defensive end by significantly reducing opponent’s opportunities to score by grabbing rebounds, steals and being in the lanes to deflect passes. Price was regarded as the best rookies all season long, and she was accordingly named WNBA Rookie of the Year.

Though the team finished at the bottom of the Eastern Conference again, there was many reasons to be pleased. The team was competitive and made positive strides towards long term success. They had picked up key players and began to click at both ends of the floor. The fans began to notice also as word of the Sky reached out to more and more Chicagoans.
