Week 4: Beecher Ladycats

The Chicago Sky has selected Beecher High School as the fourth “High School Team of the Week” winner for its 2015 competition. The team earned the honor after being nominated for outstanding efforts and achievements within their team and local community.

The Beecher Ladycats varsity team features just 10 players. With the tallest players on the team standing at just 5’7, the Ladycats’ focus on teamwork and communication to overcome opponents with significant height advantages. This year, the team is off to an 11-8 start after a pair of challenging tournaments and has yet to lose a game in conference play.

Off the court, the Ladycats are very active throughout their school and community. Most of Beecher’s players are honor roll students and multi-sport athletes. Additionally, the team is dedicated to giving back in the community. Last year, the Ladycats organized and hosted a Diabetes Awareness Game, and participated in a Pink Game to raise money for breast cancer. Additionally, the Ladycats raise thousands of dollars each year for cancer charities by volunteering at their community’s annual walk-a-thon.

Beecher High School joins Oswego High School, Luther North College Prep and Glenbard East High School as 2015 award recipients. As a Chicago Sky “High School Basketball Team of the Week” award winner, the Beecher Ladycats are invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on the court.
