Sky Overseas + Offseason Updates: Rundown No. 9

CHICAGO (December 19, 2023) — Eleven Chicago Sky players are currently participating in domestic or overseas play this offseason. Below are the listed players, their respective teams, league and country.

Robyn Parks set a new overseas season high in scoring for the second week in a row, recording a game-leading 22 points in an 88-72 win over Sfântu Gheorghe on Dec. 13 after scoring 21 in a game last week. In the Dec. 13 win, she shot 57.1% (8 of 14) from the field and 40.0% (2 of 5) from three. Parks followed that game up with a 14-point outing on Dec. 16 in a 98-50 win over Battipaglia.

In her past three games, Parks is averaging 19.0 points and is shooting 56.3% on 16 total attempts from three. During the seven-game win streak, she’s averaging 13.3 points.

Parks’s performances helped Schio extend its win streak to seven with the two victories last week. The two wins last week helped keep Schio in second in the Italian League standings at 9-1 and in third in EuroLeague’s Group A standings at 6-3.

The next chance to catch Parks and Schio in action is on Dec. 20 for a EuroLeague matchup against Miskolc.

Marina Mabrey and Elizabeth Williams helped Mersin get out to a three-game win streak with two victories over the past week. Mersin took down Landes 72-70 on Dec. 13 in a EuroLeague matchup before defeating Galatasaray, 83-74, on Dec. 17.

In the Dec. 13 win over Landes, Mabrey scored 21 points and connected on five of her eight three-point attempts. Her five threes in that game tied an overseas season high. She followed that game up with a 27-point outing against Galatasaray, which led all scorers.

During Mersin’s win streak, Mabrey is averaging 24.3 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 49.0% from the field and 42.3% from three on 8.7 attempts per game.

Williams recorded a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double against Landes. She also blocked six shots in that game, her overseas season high. She’s averaging 3.0 blocks in her last four games. Williams followed that game up with a 14-point, 11-rebound game against Galatasaray.

After scoring 12 and 14 points, respectively, in her two appearances last week, Williams extended her streak of games in double figures to eight. She hasn’t scored under 10 points in a game since Nov. 16.

With the pair of victories last week, Mersin maintained its spot at second in the Turkish League standings at 11-3 and at second in EuroLeague’s Group B standings at 6-3. Mersin, Mabrey and Williams next take the court on Dec. 20 against Villeneuve, who sit 1.0 games behind Mersin in Group B.

Dana Evans and Beşiktaş fell to Žabiny Brno in a EuroCup game on Dec. 13, 63-73. Evans scored a game-high 28 points and recorded six assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block. She followed that performance up with a 26-point game in a 77-73 win over Nasibe.

On the season, Evans is averaging 24.0 points and 5.9 assists while shooting 40.0% from beyond the arc. She hasn’t scored fewer than 16 points since Nov. 16. Beşiktaş is third in the Turkish League standings at 9-5, 2.0 games behind Mersin and 5.0 behind league-leading Fenerbahce. Beşiktaş sits at first in Group E of the EuroLeague standings.

The next chance to watch Evans and Beşiktaş comes on Dec. 21, when Beşiktaş takes on Žabiny Brno again.

Morgan Bertsch’s game-high 23 points on Dec. 13 against Atomeromu extended Girona’s win streak to six. She also recorded five rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. Bertsch and Girona lost the following game on Dec. 16 against Estudiantes, 60-78. She finished with eight points in that game.

Over the past three games, Bertsch is averaging 15.3 points on 56.3% shooting from the field and 40.0% shooting from beyond the arc.

Girona remained undefeated in EuroCup play by way of its Dec. 13 win over Atomeromu, sitting at 6-0 and at the top of the Group B standings. Bertsch and Girona play Atomeromu again on Dec. 21 for another EuroCup matchup.

Sika Koné recorded a double-double against Villeneuve on Dec. 13 with 16 points and a game-leading 13 rebounds. That game marked her sixth double-double this overseas season. Koné followed that up by scoring nine points and seven rebounds in a 74-78 loss to Zaragoza on Dec. 16.

Koné and her club, Avenida, next play on Dec. 20 in a EuroLeague matchup against Bologna.

Alanna Smith and Emlak played in one game this week, a 74-80 loss to Tarsus. Smith finished the game with her second consecutive 30-point double-double, ending the contest with 31 points and 13 rebounds, which both led all players. She also ended the game with two assists, two steals and a block and made an overseas season-high five three-pointers.

Smith is averaging 25.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 2.0 steals in her last four games while shooting 50.7% from the field and 44.0% from three on 25 total attempts. Emlak and Smith next take on Galatasaray on Dec. 23.

In addition to her Turkish League play, Smith was announced as part of Basketball Australia’s 2024 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament team. She is one of 20 players on the roster who is tasked with helping Australia qualify for the Paris Olympics. A 12-player team will be picked for the Olympics from the qualifying team. Australia will play Brazil, who is hosting, as well as Germany and Serbia from Feb. 8-11 in their group. Australia must finish top three in their group to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Courtney Williams recorded 23 points, eight rebounds and three steals in a loss to Inner Mongolia on Dec. 15. She had four points, six rebounds and six assists in 20 minutes in Shaanxi’s following game, a loss against Sichuan. Williams and the Red Wolves next take on Shanghai on Dec. 20.

Taylor Soule and Rebekah Gardner did not play this week.

Chicago Sky players currently overseas are a combined 90-48 (.652 win percentage) with their teams so far this season when joining their team.
