Sky Overseas + Offseason Updates: Rundown No. 8

CHICAGO (December 11, 2023) — Eleven Chicago Sky players are currently participating in domestic or overseas play this offseason. Below are the listed players, their respective teams, league and country.

Robyn Parks and Schio extended their win streak to five last week with victories over Lublin on Dec. 6 and San Martino on Dec. 10. Parks has won eight of her last nine outings with Schio, averaging 12.2 points during that stretch.

Parks set numerous overseas season highs last week in the matchup with Taylor Soule and San Martino. She recorded highs of 21 points, eight made field goals and five made three-pointers in the 74-67 victory.

Schio and Parks are next scheduled to play Sfântu Gheorghe on Dec. 13 in a EuroLeague game.

Soule and San Martino’s one game this week came against Schio, with San Martino falling by seven. Soule recorded 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, hitting five of her 11 field goal attempts. 

San Martino sits at 6-3 in Italian League play, sixth in the standings, and is next set to face Tarsus on Dec. 17.

Marina Mabrey and Elizabeth Williams played two big games last week with Mersin, taking on Sika Koné’s Avenida in a EuroLeague matchup on Dec. 6 and Alanna Smith’s Emlak in a Turkish League game on Dec. 9.

Mabrey averaged 18.5 points last week, scoring 12 in a 56-67 loss to Avenida before scoring a team-leading 25 points in an 87-73 win over Emlak. In the victory over Emlak, Mabrey also recorded an overseas season-high nine rebounds and hit four of her 10 three-point attempts.

Williams averaged 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.5 blocks and 3.0 steals last week in Mersin’s two-game stretch. In the matchup against Koné’s Avenida, Williams recorded a team-high 15 points and a game-leading 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double. She followed that up with 17 points and seven rebounds against Emlak. In two games, she recorded five blocks and six steals.

With the loss to Avenida in EuroLeague play, both Mersin and Avenida are 5-3, behind 7-1 USK Praha for the best record in Group B. The Turkish League win over Emlak moved Mersin to 10-3 in league play, propelling the club to second in the league behind 13-0 Fenerbahçe.

Koné recorded a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double in Avenida’s win over Mersin. Her 19 points led all scorers, her ninth time doing so in her past 12 outings. In her team’s second game of the week on Dec. 9 against Gernika, she scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a 73-80 loss.

Avenida continues EuroLeague play on Dec. 13 against Villeneuve.

Smith and Emlak played one game last week, the Dec. 9 matchup with Mersin. Smith put up a 32-point, 10-rebound double-double in the 73-87 loss. Her 32 points were an overseas season high, and she led all players in scoring, rebounds and minutes played.

In her last four games with 30 or more minutes, Smith is averaging 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 2.3 steals. She led her team in scoring in all four of those outings.

Smith’s next game is on Dec. 16 against Tarsus as Emlak’s domestic season continues. The club currently sits at 7-6 in Turkish League play.

Dana Evans and Beşiktaş played once last week, defeating Bursa 100-75 on Dec. 8. Evans scored 22 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists in the victory. Evans is averaging 23.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 1.8 steals in her last five games.

The win over Bursa moved Beşiktaş to 8-5 in the Turkish League, good for fifth place as of Dec. 11. Beşiktaş and Evans next take the court on Dec. 14 against Žabiny Brno in EuroCup play.

Morgan Bertsch and Girona played one game last week against Celta Zorka, winning 84-75 on Dec. 9. The win marks Girona’s fifth straight and the club has won 12 of its last 13 games. In the victory over Celta Zorka, Bertsch played 31 minutes and scored 15 points, hitting five of her seven field goal attempts.

Rebekah Gardner is joining Bertsch on Girona’s roster after signing with the club on Dec. 7. Gardner played with Girona in her last overseas season. She averaged 14.4 points in 30 Spanish League games and 13.8 points in 14 EuroCup outings last year.

Girona is now fourth in the Spanish League standings at 8-3. The club remains at 6-0 in EuroCup play, sitting atop Group B’s standings. Girona’s next game is a EuroCup matchup against Atomerőmű on Dec. 14.

Courtney Williams nearly recorded two triple-doubles in her three appearances this week with Shaanxi. On Dec. 6, Williams scored seven points to go along with nine rebounds and nine assists. On Dec. 9, Williams recorded 19 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and four steals. She finished with 12 points and four assists on Dec. 11 against Beijing.

Williams and Shaanxi next play against Inner Mongolia on Dec. 15.

Chicago Sky players currently overseas are a combined 84-41 (.672 win percentage) with their teams so far this season when joining their team.
