Sky Overseas + Offseason Updates: Rundown No. 21

CHICAGO (March 25, 2024) — Eight Chicago Sky players are currently participating in domestic or overseas play this offseason. Below are the listed players, their respective teams, league and country.

Dana Evans and Beşiktaş extended their win streak to 11 after defeating Nesibe three times last week. In the regular season matchup against Nesibe on March 20, Evans stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists. Beşiktaş finished the regular season at 20-8, 8.0 games behind Fenerbahce for the league’s top seed and is the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

Evans and Beşiktaş played Nesibe again on March 23 in the first of two Turkish League quarterfinal matchups. In that game, Evans scored 12 points and a game-leading nine assists to give Beşiktaş the edge in the series.

In the second game on March 25, Beşiktaş won again to advance to the semifinals. Because Mersin won its quarterfinal matchup against Ormanspor, Beşiktaş and Mersin are set to play each other in the semifinals. Evans recorded a 25-point, 12-assist double-double in the win.

Beşiktaş and Mersin begin their semifinal matchup on March 27. Beşiktaş also plays on April 3 and 10 against the London Lions in the EuroCup finals.

Marina Mabrey and Elizabeth Williams helped guide Mersin to a Turkish League quarterfinal win over Ormanspor in the first of two games between the teams on March 23. Mabrey recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and an overseas season-high five steals in the win. Williams posted 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Williams also appeared in the regular season game against Galatasaray on March 20. She recorded 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and three blocks in that game. Mabrey did not appear in that matchup. Mersin finished the regular season at 17-11.

Mabrey, Williams and Mersin then defeated Ormanspor again in the second game between the two teams on March 25. Mabrey neared a triple-double in the victory, recording 22 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Williams had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Because it defeated Ormanspor in both games, Mersin advanced to the semifinals to play Beşiktaş beginning on March 27.

Mersin also begins play in the EuroLeague semifinal on April 12 against Fenerbahce.

Michaela Onyenwere and Ormanspor fell to Mersin in the first quarterfinal matchup on March 23. She recorded a game-leading 25 points while shooting 66.7% (10 of 15) from the floor while adding four rebounds and two steals. Onyenwere and Ormanspor fell to Fenerbahce earlier in the week in a regular-season game on March 20, with Onyenwere scoring four points. Ormanspor finished the regular season with a 19-9 record, finishing fourth in the standings.

Onyenwere and Ormanspor then fell to Mersin again on March 25. Because they lost both games, Ormanspor was eliminated from the Turkish League playoffs. Onyenwere recorded 26 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Lindsay Allen and Taya Reimer helped lead Botas to a win over Kayseri on March 20, assuring Botas’s place as the No. 8 seed in the Turkish League playoffs with a 14-14 record. In that game, Allen recorded 13 points, four rebounds and a team-high six assists. Reimer added four points and five rebounds in the win.

In the first round of the Turkish League playoffs, Botas matched up with top-ranked Fenerbahce. In the first matchup between the two teams on March 23, Botas fell to Fenerbahce. Allen scored eight points and dished out a team-high seven assists in the loss. Reimer led all players in minutes with 37 and recorded 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Botas fell to Fenerbahce in the second game of the quarterfinals and was thus eliminated from the Turkish League playoffs. Allen recorded 21 points, seven rebounds and nine assists in the loss while shooting 53.3% (8 of 15) from the floor. Reimer had an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Isabelle Harrison played the fourth and final week of Athletes Unlimited with Team Sims, capping off the season with a 103-75 win over Team Gray. Teams Sims went 1-2 in games played last week.

Harrison averaged 8.7 points last week, recording 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes against Team Cloud on March 20. She had seven points against Team Bell on March 22 and six points on March 23 against Team Gray.

On the season, Harrison averaged 12.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.8 steals. She had her season-best performance on March 14 against Team Mitchell, scoring a 41-point, 13-rebound double-double, both of which were season highs.

Sika Koné and Avenida split their games last week, defeating Gernika on March 22 before falling to Zaragoza on March 23. Koné recorded six points and six rebounds against Gernika and had eight points and two rebounds against Zaragoza.

After last week’s play, Avenida is 22-5 and ranked second in the Spanish League standings. Avenida is 1.0 games behind Valencia for first in the standings and is 1.0 games ahead of Zaragoza for third. The pivotal matchup between Avenida and Valencia is scheduled for March 28.

Chennedy Carter wrapped up her season with Bursa after appearing in three games with the team. She averaged 25.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals with Bursa. She had a season-best 35 points in her final game with Bursa against Tarsus on March 9.

Chicago Sky players currently overseas are a combined 169-104 (.619 win percentage) with their teams so far this season.
