Sky Overseas + Offseason Updates: Rundown No. 17

CHICAGO (February 26, 2024) — Eleven Chicago Sky players are currently participating in domestic or overseas play this offseason. Below are the listed players, their respective teams, league and country.

Dana Evans helped lead Beşiktaş to two straight wins last week, with the club knocking off BLMA in the first game of the quarterfinals round of EuroCup before beating Izmit in a Turkish League matchup.

Evans recorded 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals in the win over BLMA before scoring a game-leading 25 points and seven assists. She’s averaging 25.3 points in her last seven games.

Beşiktaş and Evans are next scheduled to play BLMA for the second of two EuroCup quarterfinals games on Feb. 29. Beşiktaş is 4-2 and sits atop the EuroCup’s Group E standings.

Marina Mabrey and Elizabeth Williams helped Mersin to a pair of wins last week, including the first of two EuroLeague quarterfinals matchups against Zaragoza. Mabrey led all players in scoring in the win over Zaragoza, recording 26 points while shooting 9 of 18 (50.0%) from the floor and 5 of 8 (62.5%) from three. She also led all players in assists (seven) and steals (three).

In the following game, a win over Cankaya, Mabrey recorded nine points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Williams stuffed the stat sheet against Cankaya, scoring 21 points with six rebounds, six assists and a game-high and overseas season-high five steals.

Mersin’s win over Zaragoza puts them in position to advance to the next round of the EuroLeague, dependent on Round 2 against Zaragoza. Mersin is 15-10 and sixth in the Turkish League standings and is 9-5 and in second place in the EuroLeague Group B standings.

Brianna Turner helped Adelaide extend its win streak to four, with the club defeating Southside 74-60 on Feb. 24. In the win, Turner recorded a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double while connecting on 10 of her 16 (62.5%) shot attempts. She also finished with four assists, a block and three steals.

Adelaide is now 8-13 and seventh in Australian League standings.

Sika Koné and Avenida split their two games last week, losing to top-ranked Fenerbahce on Feb. 21 in the first of two EuroLeague games before beating Zaragoza on Feb. 25. Koné totaled four points and six rebounds in 25 total minutes across both games.

Koné and Avenida play the second of two EuroLeague quarterfinals games against Fenerbahce on Feb. 28.

Lindsay Allen and Taya Reimer fell in a close 82-83 matchup against Nesibe in a Turkish League game on Feb. 24. Allen had her strongest individual performance of her overseas season, recording a season-high and game-leading 39 points while connecting on 12 of her 20 shots (60.0%) from the floor and three of her four (75.0%) three-point attempts. Allen also led all players in assists with eight.

Reimer recorded 17 points and four rebounds in the loss, playing 39 minutes. Reimer is averaging 12.8 points this season.

Allen and Reimer’s Botas is 11-13 and in eighth place in the Turkish League standings.

Since joining Bursa, Chennedy Carter has appeared in two games, averaging 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals. In a 66-77 loss to Botas on Feb. 19, Carter led her team in scoring with 21 points while pulling down nine boards. Then, in the following game, Carter scored 19 points to help Bursa to an 84-69 win over Emlak.

Bursa is 8-16 and is 12th in the Turkish League standings. The club is 3-3 in EuroCup play.

Robyn Parks and Schio fell in the first of two quarterfinal EuroLeague matchups against USK Praha, losing 60-78 on Feb. 21. Parks recorded 10 points and five rebounds while connecting on two of her five (40.0%) three-point attempts.

Parks and Schio take on USK Praha again to conclude the quarterfinals round on Feb. 28. Schio is 9-5 in EuroLeague play, fourth in the Group A standings.

Rebekah Gardner suffered a right torn Achilles in a Feb. 22 game against Galatasaray. She is expected to undergo surgery and there is no further timetable set at the moment. 

Michaela Onyenwere did not appear in a game last week.

Chicago Sky players currently overseas are a combined 141-91 (.608 win percentage) with their teams so far this season.
