Sky Overseas + Offseason Updates: Rundown No. 13

CHICAGO (January 29, 2024) — Ten Chicago Sky players are currently participating in domestic or overseas play this offseason. Below are the listed players, their respective teams, league and country.

Robyn Parks helped Schio extend its win streak to four over the past week, totaling 27 points in wins over Zaragoza and Campobasso. In the win over Zaragoza, a EuroCup game, Parks recorded 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and an overseas season-high four steals. In a 61-57 Italian League win over Campobasso, Parks scored a game-high 16 points. 

The two wins this week kept Schio within striking distance of first place in EuroCup and the Italian League. Entering Monday, Schio sits at 12-4 and 2.5 games behind Venezia for first in the Italian League and is 9-4 and 2.0 games behind Fenerbahce for first in EuroCup’s Group A standings.

Parks and Schio are next scheduled to play Valencia on Jan. 30 in a EuroCup matchup.

Elizabeth Williams and Marina Mabrey continued to stuff the stat sheet for Mersin over the past week. In a EuroLeague win over UNI Gyor, Williams recorded a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double to go along with three assists, three blocks and two steals. In her next game, a Turkish League loss to Tarsus, Williams finished with 14 points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block. She led her team in at least two statistical categories in each game.

In the win over UNI Gyor, Mabrey recorded 23 points, leading all players in scoring, along with six assists and five rebounds. She again led all players in scoring with 23 points against Tarsus, and tallied six assists.

By picking up a EuroLeague win last week, Mersin stayed within 2.0 games of USK Praha for first place in the Group B standings. Williams, Mabrey and the rest of Mersin are next scheduled to play on Jan. 30 in an important EuroLeague matchup against top-ranked USK Praha.

Morgan Bertsch and Rebekah Gardner contributed to a blowout victory for Girona over Ferrol on Jan. 27. Bertsch and Gardner combined for 21 points in a 69-46 victory that extended Girona’s win streak to five. Specifically, Bertsch recorded 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Gardner played 22 minutes, her most since making her debut this month, and tallied nine points and six rebounds.

Girona is now 13-6 in Spanish League play and sits at fourth in the standings, 3.0 games behind Valencia for first. Bertsch, Gardner and Girona are next scheduled to continue Spanish League play on Feb. 4 against Cadi La Seu.

Sika Koné and Avenida went 2-0 last week, having now won four games in a row. Koné recorded six points and five rebounds in a 78-73 win over Polkowice in EuroLeague play. In the following game, she led all players in rebounds with seven and assists with five while adding 13 points and two blocks in a 76-44 victory over Celta Zorka.

The pair of victories kept Avenida 1.0 games within first place in Spanish League play and moved to 7-6 in EuroLeague. Koné and Avenida are next scheduled to continue EuroLeague play on Jan. 30 against UNI Gyor.

Alanna Smith made her return to play for Emlak last week, playing in both of the club’s games. In an 80-89 loss to Kayseri, Smith led her team in scoring with 22 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. In the following game, a 31-point victory over Hatay, Smith again led her team in points (15) and rebounds (nine). In the two games, Smith shot a combined 13 of 16 from the floor (81.3%).

Emlak currently sits at eighth in the Turkish League standings, 0.5 games ahead of Antalya. Smith and Emlak are next scheduled to play on Feb. 2 against Cankaya.

Dana Evans and Beşiktaş lost last weekend to Ormanspor, falling 68-78. Evans had a strong individual performance, recording a team-leading 25 points, eight assists and two steals. She finished the month with averages of 24.3 points, 7.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds on 38.8% shooting from three in January. She led her team in scoring in five of seven games in the month.

Beşiktaş is now fourth in the Turkish League standings, 0.5 games behind Galatasaray for third. Evans and Beşiktaş are next scheduled to play Mabrey and Williams’ Mersin on Feb. 3.

Taylor Soule and San Martino did not play last week. Soule is next scheduled to suit up for San Martino on Feb. 3 against San Giovanni.

Chicago Sky players currently overseas are a combined 132-80 (.623) win percentage) with their teams so far this season when joining their team.
