Sky vs Fever Preview 8/04

Chicago and Indiana will meet on August 4, which marks the final regular season contest between the Sky and Fever. The Sky lead the series 3-0 and look for their first season sweep over the Fever in franchise history.

The two teams met on June 5 for the Sky’s season home opener. Chicago won with a dominating 95-72 victory powered by a 31 point, eight rebound performance from Elena Delle Donne. Jessica Breland grabbed her season high 13 rebounds. Marissa Coleman led the Fever with 18 points and Natalie Achonwa added 10 points.

On June 14, Chicago traveled to Indiana and continued their opening night dominance. The Sky had six players reaching double-digit points. Delle Donne (24), Cappie Pondexter (15), Courtney Vandersloot (14), Clarissa Dos Santos (12), Betnijah Laney (11), and Jamierra Faulkner (10) all helped secure a 98-72 victory over the Fever. Coleman and Achonwa again led the Fever with 16 and 12 points, respectively.

Chicago visited the Fever one more time on June 26 and stole a close win. Pondexter led all scorers with 23 points and Allie Quigley added 17. Delle Donne scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds earning a double-double. Coleman once again led the Fever with 16 points and eight rebounds.

The Sky is coming off a one-point win over the Washington Mystics on August 2. With 19 seconds left in the game, Delle Donne hit a jump shot putting the Sky up by one point. Ultimately it was Breland who secured the 71-68 win by making two free throws in the final seconds. Delle Donne led all scorers with 22 points.

In Indiana’s most recent win against the Connecticut Sun, five players scored double digit points to combine for 59 of their 83 points. Briann January (12) also dished out eight assists in the Fever’s 83-70 victory.
