Sky @ Fever 6/26 Preview
On Friday, June 26th the Sky returns to the court against the Fever at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 6pm CT on The U Too. This game marks the third time this season that the two teams will play. In both matchups, Chicago defeated Indiana. The first game was the Sky’s home opener on June 5th in which the Sky won 95-72. The second matchup was on June 14th, which resulted in an almost identical outcome with a final score of 98-72, in Chicago’s favor.
Elena Delle Donne shined in Chicago’s season opener at Allstate Arena posting 31 points and eight rebounds, while Courtney Vandersloot added 13 points. Marissa Coleman and Natalie Achonwa led Indiana with 18 and 10 points respectively. The Fever shot 39.4% from the field and accumulated 20 turnovers, as opposed to Chicago’s 49.2% from the field and only 11 turnovers.
In the Sky’s second game against the Fever, Delle Donne scored 24 points followed by Cappie Pondexter and Vandersloot with 15 and 14, respectively. Marissa Coleman paced the Fever with 16 points. Natalie Achonwa had 12 and Maggie Lucas added 10 points. Chicago outrebounded Indiana, 46-27, the Fever’s second-largest rebounding deficit in franchise history and going into half-time Chicago led by a score of 53-21, marking the largest halftime deficit the Fever have held at home in franchise history. The Sky also recorded seven steals and 10 blocked shots, while shooting an impressive 56.7% from the field, all the while holding Indiana to 31.5% from the field on the defensive side.
On Friday, the Sky looks to advance to 3-0 against Indiana in 2015 and improve their overall record to 5-3. Delle Donne and Vandersloot have showed consistency in the first two match-ups for the Sky; while Coleman and Anchonwa has been the Fever’s staple in the two games verses Chicago. The Sky can expect yet another stellar performance from Delle Donne considering she has earned two consecutive Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors and is coming off of a career high game last Wednesday against Atlanta tallying in 45 points, which led Chicago to an overtime victory of 100-96.
