The Chicago Sky lost to the New York Liberty in the final moments of play on Wednesday, July 22. The Sky were outscored 10-3 in the last minute and a half of tonight's game, with Sabrina Ionescu in particular knocking down two huge shots against the Sky down the stretch. In both of the Sky's matchups against the Liberty this season, the Sky fell by exactly one point.

Despite the tough loss, the Sky produced an efficient offensive game and one to remember for several players.

The tough back-to-back battle was powered by New York native Sydney Taylor and her career-high 31 points. Taylor proved herself a shot-maker as she connected on 52.9% of field goal attempts, shot 57.1% beyond the arc and went 9 for 10 from the line, marking a new career high from the line. She rounded out her All-Rookie worthy performance with three rebounds and three assists. 

Taylor is the second rookie across the league with multiple 30+ point games and now claims the title of the most 30+ point games by any rookie in Sky franchise history. A walking bucket, the former Cardinal’s 14.2 points per game rank second among rookies this 2026 season.  

Chicago’s productive offense found success as they dished out 27 assists. Seven of those passers came from veteran Natasha Cloud who is now averaging 6.0 assists per game. Alongside this team-high, she contributed nine points to the scoreboard. 

Courtney Vandersloot notched a season-high 14 points. Big Azurà Stevens recorded an efficient eight points, six rebounds and four blocks. Center Kamilla Cardoso rounded out the Sky's box score with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists. 

The Liberty saw four players in double figures in tonight’s tight clash. Sabrina Ionescu led New York with 29 points, four rebounds and four assists. Trailing behind was two-time MVP Breanna Stewart with 20 points, nine boards and three blocks. Jonquel Jones tallied 14 points, while crashing 10 boards. Former Sky guard Rebecca Allen rounded out New York’s clutch performance with a season-high 12 points and four rebounds. 

Tonight’s matchup marks the Sky’s 11th single-digit loss of the season. The Midwestern unit now enters the All-Star break at 9-18 on the season. Although the Sky didn't get the win in Wednesday's game, these consistent tight performances point toward a hopeful return to the win column following the break. 

The Sky return to Chicago for the All-Star break commencing July 24 in the Wintrust Arena. Chicago resumes the season at home against the Connecticut Sun on Thursday, July 30. That game tips off at 7 p.m. CT in Wintrust Arena and will be broadcast on Prime Video.
