For their final matchup of the season, the Chicago Sky head to New York to face the Liberty in Barclays Center on Saturday, Aug. 29. While the Sky trail the series record 1-2, both losses came in a close one-point deficit. Chicago looks to level the series and improve upon the 37-40 all-time record against New York in Saturday’s contest.

In their first face off on June 17, the Sky fell 96-95 in Wintrust Arena despite Sydney Taylor’s 28-foot shot from deep that put Chicago up by one with 15.6 seconds remaining. Taylor totaled 24 points on a 62.5% clip from the floor and 57.1% look from beyond the arc in her first career start. Fellow rookie Gabriela Jaquez had a season outing, yielding a career-high 22 points while shooting 63.6% from the field, 80% from deep and 100% from the line.

New York pulled away behind Sabrina Ionescu’s bucket with 10.3 seconds remaining. Six-time All-Star Jonquel Jones set the pace for the Liberty, totaling 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

The next time the two teams met ended in another one-point loss for the Sky, ultimately falling 95-94 to the Liberty in Barclays Center on July 22. Taylor put up a career-high 31 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal while veteran Courtney Vandersloot contributed 14 points, four assists, a steal and a block to energize Chicago’s all-around drive. New York gained the lead behind Ionescu’s 13 points in the fourth quarter and season-high 29 points overall.

On Aug. 18, the Sky finally got revenge with a convincing 93-86 win in Wintrust Arena which was cemented behind Chicago’s statement 10-2 run from 1:50 to 0:06 in the fourth quarter. 

Leading the charge for the Sky was Natasha Cloud’s career-high 35 points, nine rebounds and six assists and Kamilla Cardoso’s 17 points, 12 rebounds, two steals and a block. New York was supported by Breanna Stewart’s 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.

Both teams are coming off recent losses, with Chicago falling to Connecticut 87-81 on Aug. 25 and New York losing to Golden State 79-60 on Aug. 27. Saturday’s contest will be the final of the Liberty’s three-game home stretch in which they are currently 1-1 and the last of the Sky’s two consecutive away games.

The game between Chicago and New York tips off at 12 p.m. CT in Barclays Center and will be broadcast on CBS.
