Sky Overseas + Offseason Updates: Rundown No. 5

Angel Reese began play for Unrivaled on Jan. 17 during the league’s inaugural season. In her first game against Vinyl Basketball Club, Reese secured a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double to go along with four assists. In her next game against the Lunar Owls Basketball Club, Reese scored 12 points and six rebounds. Team Rose continues play on Saturday, Jan. 25 against the Mist Basketball Club.

Kamilla Cardoso helped Shanghai win three of its last four games over the past two weeks behind high-scoring performances. She scored 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists on Jan. 10 against Shandong before following that up with a 15-point, 14-rebound performance. Shanghai picked up another win on Jan. 16 against Jiangsu, with Cardoso notching 29 points and 11 rebounds. She averaged 27.5 points and 13.0 rebounds in her last four games.

Cardoso scored career highs of 40 points and 17 rebounds to go along with nine assists and three steals in a Jan. 18 win over Zhejiang. Her 40 points helped Shanghai secure a season-high 113 points. She’s now averaging 21.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 64.5% from the field.

Shanghai is now 16-8 in the WCBA standings. They are in third place in the Group A2 standings, 3.0 games out of first place. Cardoso and Shanghai next play on Jan. 21 against Xinjiang.

Chennedy Carter has scored at least 30 points in every game but one for Wuhan over the past two weeks, averaging 32.0 points while shooting 54.5% from the field.

Carter helped Wuhan to a 54-point victory on Jan. 8 against Tianjin, scoring a game-high 30 points on 73.7% (14 of 19) shooting. She then had back-to-back 40-point games on Jan. 10 and 12, both against Liaoning. In the first matchup against Liaoning, Carter helped Wuhan to a one-point victory. In the second matchup between the two teams, Carter notched her fifth double-double of the season.

She scored 17 points on Jan. 15 versus Heilongjiang before recording 33 against the same team on Jan. 17. Carter has recorded five steals in three of her last four games. She’s now averaging 31.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.8 steals this season.

Wuhan has now won seven games in a row and hasn’t lost a game in which Carter played since Nov. 28. Wuhan is now 20-4 and is in first place in the WCBA Group B standings. The only team in the WCBA that holds a better record than Wuhan is Group A1’s Sichuan, which is 23-1. Wuhan and Carter next play on Jan. 20 and 22.

Dana Evans helped Beşiktaş advance to the EuroCup quarterfinals by winning the team’s two-game series against Angers on Jan. 9 and 16. She scored 19 points to go along with five assists in the first game between the two teams, with Beşiktaş winning by 12 points. Evans led all players with 17 points and six assists, but Beşiktaş came up short in the second game. Beşiktaş advanced to the quarterfinals since they finished the two-game series with a positive point differential (+2).

Evans also helped Beşiktaş to a 28-point KBSL victory over Nesibe on Jan. 12. She led all players with 19 points and six assists, and she also pulled down eight rebounds.

She is now averaging 17.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists. Beşiktaş is now 9-5 in the KBSL standings, 5.0 games out of first place. The team continues its Turkish League game slate on Jan. 20 against Emlak. The EuroCup quarterfinals take place on Feb. 20 and 27 for Beşiktaş.

Brianna Turner stuffed the stat sheet for Adelaide in two games over the past two weeks. On Jan. 11 against Canberra, Turner scored six points to go along with a game-high 16 rebounds. She also notched five assists, three steals and two blocks in that same game. She then recorded a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double against Sydney on Jan. 19, along with four assists, four blocks and two steals.

Adelaide is 5-11 on the season and 1.0 games out of a playoff spot. Turner and Adelaide continue their WNBL schedule on Jan. 22 against Southside.

Lindsay Allen returned to play on Jan. 19 after Botaş was off for two weeks. She recorded four points, two rebounds and a team-high seven assists against Mersin. Botaş is now 5-10 and in the eighth and final playoff spot in the KBSL standings. Allen and Botaş next play on Jan. 25 against Nesibe.
