The Chicago Sky lost to the Las Vegas Aces 98-90 in overtime in T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Friday, July 3.
Despite the loss, the Sky saw five players score in double figures in the team’s first of four consecutive games on the road. In addition to her four helpers, veteran Skylar Diggins captained the offense with a team-best 19 points on an efficient 53.8% from the field in 34 minutes of action.
After dropping 24 points and corralling eight rebounds in Sunday’s bout against the Aces, center Kamilla Cardoso resumed her excellent stretch of play with a 16-point, 10-rebound, four-assist and two-block outing, marking her sixth double-double of the season and ninth straight appearance with at least 10 points.
In her third game back from injury, Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot poured in four field goals for a season-high 11 points in 19 minutes – the most she’s played this season. The 2021 WNBA champion also dished out three more assists and forced a pair of steals in her plus-14 outing, which led all Chicago players. With fewer than 50 total minutes under her belt, the franchise's all-time leader in points and assists became the first player to achieve such numbers this season.
Veteran Natasha Cloud made her presence felt with 15 points and a team-leading five assists in 34 minutes for the second unit. The 34-year-old, who reached the charity stripe six times, served as a catalyst during the Sky’s comeback in the third quarter alongside Azurá Stevens, who registered 11 points on a 66.7% split from the floor and notched a pair of steals in 26 minutes.
Las Vegas saw four players finish in double figures in tonight’s matchup. NaLyssa Smith led the Aces in scoring with 29 points and eight rebounds. Jewell Loyd recorded 19 points, five rebounds and three assists. Chelsea Gray notched 18 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals. To round out the Aces, Jackie Young finished the night with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
