Recap: Sky Conclude Regular Season, Lose 101-93 to Mystics

The Chicago Sky fell to the Washington Mystics 101-93 in Capital One Arena on Thursday, Sept. 24. The Sky conclude the regular season at 16-28, 4-16 against the Eastern Conference, 5-17 on the road and 35-43 against the Mystics all time. 

In the final game of the season, Sydney Taylor, Kamilla Cardoso and Courtney Vandersloot each led the Sky in scoring with 16 points apiece. Taylor reinforced her case for a spot on the All-Rookie team with a 16-point, four-assist performance. The rookie ended the season averaging 13.6 points per game, which is the most points per game by an undrafted rookie in WNBA history. She also finished the year leading all rookies in threes made and ranking third in total and per-game scoring.

Cardoso strengthened her drive for the All-Defensive team with her 16th double-double of the season, recording 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and a steal. Cardoso is fifth in the league for blocks per game this season with 1.7 and has totaled a dominant 371 rebounds this season, marking the most productive season of her career thus far.

Vandersloot also dished out seven assists and secured two steals. The five-time All-Star was efficient on the floor, shooting 75% from the field, 100% from deep and 100% from the line. Her made a huge four-point play toward the end of the game to get the Sky back into the game late after trailing by as many as 25 points. Guard Rachel Banham scored 12 points alongside veteran Elizabeth William’s nine points and career-high-tying five steals to round out the stat sheet for the Sky.

The Mystics saw five players in double figures in tonight’s outing. Two-time All-Star Sonia Citron led the scoring charge for Washington, recording 21 points, five rebounds and five assists on a highly efficient 88.8% (8 for 9) mark from the field. Forward Kiki Iriafen put up her 23rd double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while 2020 Rookie of the Year Michaela Onyenwere registered 16 points on a 50% (5 for 10) clip from the floor, paired with two rebounds and two assists.
