Preview: Sky Take on Sun in Final Mohegan Sun Clash

The Sky head to Connecticut for the final time ever before the Connecticut Sun move to Houston on Tuesday, Aug. 25 in Mohegan Sun Arena. Chicago leads the season series against Connecticut 2-1 and is 36-40 against the Sun all time.

En route to the Sky’s first WNBA championship title in 2021, Chicago faced off against Connecticut in the semifinals, winning three of their four matchups. In the first game of the series, Sky legend Courtney Vandersloot recorded a triple-double and broke the single-game WNBA postseason assist record with 18 in Mohegan Sun.

In their first matchup on June 5, the Sky secured an 85-80 win in Wintrust Arena behind an all-around effort with five Chicago players seeing double-digit scoring. Guard Natasha Cloud was efficient from the field with 13 points, five assists and two steals while shooting 66.7% from the floor, 100% from deep and 100% from the line. For the Sun, center Brittney Griner led the way with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

On June 22, Connecticut pulled away with a 92-63 win on their home turf. Connecticut rookie Charlisse Leger-Walker had a standout night with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a steal. For the Sky, center Kamilla Cardoso posted a game-high 16 points, 14 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Most recently, the Sky secured a 94-88 win in their first game after the All-Star break on June 30. Cardoso notched a game-high 26 points and six rebounds while shooting 66.7% (8 of 12) from the field and 90.9% (10 of 11) from the line. Olivia Nelson-Ododa led the Sun with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Connecticut recently lost their past two games against the Aces on Aug. 20 and the Sparks on Aug. 22. Griner leads the Sun in scoring with 13.2 points per game and in blocks with 1.8 blocks per game. Nelson-Ododa joins the top scorers for the Sun, averaging 10.0 points and 5.9 rebounds per game on a 56.9% clip from the floor.
