The Chicago Sky remain on the west coast for the second of their three-game road trip when they face the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Chase Center. After falling to the Indiana Fever and Seattle Storm in back-to-back close losses, Chicago looks to bounce back and continue the road trip on a strong note.

The Sky and Valkyries have already met once this season, with Chicago earning an impressive 69-63 victory on May 13 in front of a sold-out crowd in Golden State. As Golden State has climbed to a 23-9 record with only four home losses, that victory has aged as one of the best across the league all season.

In that game in May, Jacy Sheldon contributed 12 points on 50% shooting from the field among Sky players who are not ruled out for the rematch. Kamilla Cardoso added eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks while Gabriela Jaquez notched seven points and five rebounds in her second career game. Natasha Cloud made her Sky debut in that outing, contributing seven points.

Since that game, though Rickea Jackson (18 points in May 13’s outing) and Skylar Diggins (15 points) are out with injury, the Sky have added Courtney Vandersloot, Azurá Stevens and DiJonai Carrington from injury.

Carrington is fresh off one of her most impressive games this season in the Sky’s most recent matchup. Carrington became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 25 points, five rebounds and five steals off the bench in a single game while notching a career-high 26 points and 10 free throws. 

The Sky enter Wednesday’s matchup with five available players averaging double figures in scoring, compared to three for the Valkyries.

Golden State, meanwhile, comes into the matchup riding a four-game winning streak. The Valkyries are coming off an 84-78 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, led by Cecilia Zandalasini, who scored 15 points while going a perfect 5 for 5 from three-point range. Tiffany Hayes added 14 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Gabby Williams leads the Valkyries in scoring at 14.7 points per game, while Janelle Salaün is close behind at 13.1 points per game, Salaün is questionable for the outing.

Wednesday’s matchup gives Chicago an opportunity to steady the tides and get back to the win column against a Golden State team on a hot streak. The Sky played elite defense in the first outing between the two teams, holding the Valkyries to their poorest shooting game ever. The Sky look to replicate those efforts on Wednesday.
