2024 SEASON OVERVIEW: The Sky acquired Onyenwere alongside Brianna Turner in a Feb. 6 trade with Phoenix. She earned a key role through the course of the year, starting in the Sky’s final 16 games of the season.
In total, she averaged 6.6 points and 1.8 rebounds while shooting career-high marks of 41.5% from the field and 36.8% shooting from three.
She made her first start in a Sky uniform on May 23, recording a then-season-high 13 points and five rebounds against New York. She made another start on June 1 against Indiana. Onyenwere then set another season high on July 13 against New York, scoring 14 points and making a pair of threes off the bench.
Onyenwere was elevated to a full-time starting role after the All-Star/Olympic break. In the final 16 games of the season, she averaged 10.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 33.3% on 3.0 three-point attempts per game.
She had a particularly strong stretch of games amid the Sky’s playoff push from Aug. 25-Sept. 15. Onyenwere averaged 13.1 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 47.7% from the field and 45.5% from three during that 10-game slate.
During those games, she scored at least 15 points six times and set season highs for scoring in three straight games from Aug. 25-30. She set her season high in scoring on Aug. 30 against Indiana, notching 20 points and six rebounds.
Onyenwere had another crucial game toward the end of the season, reaching 1,000 career points in the same game she scored 18 points and season highs of nine rebounds and four three-pointers against Phoenix.
