Chicago Sky Sign Kate Martin to Developmental Contract
CHICAGO (Sept. 2, 2026) — The Chicago Sky signed guard Kate Martin to a developmental contract, the team announced today.
Martin most recently spent most of the 2026 season with the Los Angeles Sparks. She opened this season on a developmental contract before the Sparks converted her to a standard deal in early July. She appeared in 17 games there.
Martin was selected with the No. 18 overall pick in the second round of the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Las Vegas Aces. She appeared in 32 games there, knocking down 35.5% (22 of 62) of her three-point shot attempts.
The 6-foot guard was then selected with the No. 6 overall selection in the 2025 WNBA Expansion Draft by the Golden State Valkyries. In just 16.4 minutes, Martin averaged 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds. She was third on the Valkyries in three-pointers made (57) in their inaugural season.
In total, Martin holds career averages of 4.2 points and 2.0 rebounds.
Before making it to the WNBA, Martin played five collegiate seasons at Iowa, where she averaged 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists while shooting 46.4% from the field and 35.5% from three. She appeared in 163 career games with Iowa, helping lead Iowa to back-to-back national championship game appearances.
Martin ranks No. 5 in Iowa school history in assists (473) and No. 2 in games played (163).
Martin will wear No. 20 for the Sky. She will be available when the Sky return from FIBA break on Sept. 17 against Washington, if activated.
Chicago continues the 2026 regular season following the FIBA break on Thursday, Sept. 17 against the Washington Mystics at home in Wintrust Arena at 7:00 p.m. CT.
