The Chicago Sky earned a 97-86 win against the Connecticut Sun on Friday. The two teams will face off once again on Sunday in the last of their three-game series.
Facing the Sun
The season series between the Sky and Sun is tied 1-1. In the first matchup, Connecticut won 110-72 with five players in double-digits, but Chicago starters Allie Quigley and Stefanie Dolson were injured and did not play.
On Friday, the Sun and the Sky met again with different results. Chicago led the entire game and took the match 97-86. Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley, Stefanie Dolson, Diamond DeShields, Gabby Williams, and Kahleah Copper all scored in double-digits for the Sky.
The Sun has secured the No. 5 seed in the playoffs, and the Sky is working to take the final playoff spot. This deciding game of the series is important for both teams as there are only a few games left in the regular season.
Players to watch
Courtney Vandersloot
Vandersloot became the No. 10 assist leader in WNBA history in the last game against the Sun. She also still sits at the top of the WNBA with 8.6 assists per game. Last game, the veteran guard dished out 15 assists for the second time this season. Vandersloot has scored in double-digits 14 times this season, and had 10 or more assists in eight games. With seven double-doubles and a triple-double on the season, she shows no signs of slowing down.
Allie Quigley
Quigley shot 60 percent, scored 17 points, and dished out six assists in the win against Connecticut. The guard has scored in double-digits 22 times, 10 of those being 20-plus. She still sits in the No. 4 spot in the WNBA in 3-point percentage at 43.9 percent. The All-Star leads Chicago in scoring with 16.2 points per game and has been a consistent option for the team.
The Rookies
The Chicago Rookies have played important roles for the Sky this season. In the win against Connecticut on Friday, they combined for 29 points. Linnae Harper and Alaina Coates have been consistent coming off of the bench, and Coates grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds in the last game. Playing in every game this season, Diamond DeShields is the second leading scorer for the Sky averaging 13.4 points per game, and Gabby Williams leads the WNBA in steals per game (1.7). Look for the rookies to have valuable playing time, contributing to the team on both sides of the court.
