The Chicago Sky put up a resilient fight but ultimately fell just short against the Indiana Fever, losing 90-86 at the United Center on Saturday, Aug. 8.

The Sky battled back from a Fever lead as high as 17, and throughout the game there were four lead changes and six ties. With the hard-fought loss, Chicago moves to 12-20 on the year.

Despite the outcome, the Sky received a massive spark from their second unit, highlighted by veteran Rachel Banham playing her highest-scoring game of the season. Banham erupted for a season-high 17 points off the bench, featuring three triples, alongside three assists and two steals while finishing with a game-best plus-12. Fellow veteran Natasha Cloud kept her stellar form rolling with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, a flawless 4 for 4 from the free-throw line, and four assists in 27 minutes.

On the interior, center Kamilla Cardoso controlled the paint with 14 points, nine rebounds, a steal and a block, keeping her at sixth in the league with 265 total boards this season. Rookie Aicha Coulibaly chipped in six points and four assists with a team-high plus-16 impact, while guard Jacy Sheldon added nine points on efficient 60% shooting. Veteran Azurá Stevens scored her 1,000th career point with the franchise in the game, while Courtney Vandersloot orchestrated the offense with a game-high six assists.

Indiana countered with a powerhouse performance from their big three in Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. Mitchell led all scorers with 27 points, while Clark added a massive 26-point, 11-assist double-double, and Boston dominated the interior with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Alongside Boston, big Mikayla Timpson chipped in 10 points, with 46 of the Fever’s points coming from inside the paint.

The Sky's bench heavily outproduced Indiana's reserves 35-9, fueling multiple scoring runs, including a dominant 22-9 surge bridging the first and second quarters and a late 14-4 push in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to put the game within reach. However, a 31-point second quarter from the Fever and tough defense in the last moments of the fourth proved too steep to fully overcome.

The United Center matchup closes out the Sky’s five-game homestand, as they look to pick up their next win away against the Seattle Storm on Monday, Aug. 10. Tip is at 9 p.m. CST inside Climate Pledge Arena.
