The Chicago Sky fell to the Toronto Tempo 85-68 Sunday, June 7 in their third Commissioner’s Cup game of the season.
Chicago struggled early to find an offensive rhythm, shooting only 26.7% in the opening quarter while the Tempo made 52.4% of their shots. Toronto capitalized off the rough start and built a double-digit lead going into the second.
The Sky were able to build some momentum in quarter two with Jacy Sheldon knocking down a pair of threes to spark the offense. Despite the improved shooting, Chicago went into halftime trailing Toronto 48-33.
The third quarter brought some highlights, including rookie Gabriela Jaquez getting two steals in her return to the court after missing four games with an injury.
Although the Sky couldn't pull out the win, Azurá Stevens had another strong performance. She ended the night with a team-high 18 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double in a row. Stevens was joined in double figures by Sheldon with 10 and Jaquez with 11.
Toronto’s balanced offense proved to be the determining factor in this game with five players reaching double digits. Brittney Sykes led the team with 25 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and one steal. Former Sky forward Isabelle Harrison also had a good night, going 2 for 2 beyond the arc and 66.7% from the field.
The Sky head back home to Wintrust Arena on Tuesday to take on the Atlanta Dream. The action tips off at 6 p.m. CT and will be available to watch on ESPN.
