Quigley & Parker Combine for 39 Points; Chicago Snaps Skid with 86-79 Win Against Atlanta

GAME HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

● The Chicago Sky secured its first win on its five-game road trip with a 86-79 victory over the Atlanta Dream in a game that saw four Sky players record double-digit scoring totals.

● Sky forward Candace Parker moved to 11th all-time in career assists with a dish to teammate Courtney Vandersloot at the 6:20-minute mark in the first quarter. Against the Dream, Parker led the Sky with 9 rebounds (all defensive).

● Tonight, Sky guard Allie Quigley led the team in minutes played (35:14), field goals made (8), field goal percentage (72.7%), three-pointers made (3), three-point conversion rate (100%) and points (21).

● With her 12-point, 10-rebound performance, Vandersloot recorded another double-double en route to the Sky’s win. In addition, she crossed the 1,000 career rebounds total, as she needed just five boards entering tonight’s contest to reach the milestone.

NEXT UP: The Sky continue its late-August road trip and head to the Emerald City to face the Seattle Storm for a two-game series, with the first game set for Friday, August 27. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. CT (7:00 p.m. WT) and Sky fans can watch the game on The U/NBA TV.

● To open tonight’s game, the Sky went on a 16-6 run to take an early double-digit lead against the Dream in the first quarter.

● Atlanta erupted for an 11-4 run during the second quarter to cut into Chicago’s first-half lead.

● During the third quarter, Chicago went on a 12-2 scoring run to keep its lead, but Atlanta went on a late 6-0 run and crept to within 10 points by the end of the same quarter.

● The Dream kicked off the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run that trimmed the Sky’s lead to 74-68 with 6:16 to play in the game.

 

KEY STATS

● The Sky shot 51.5% from the field tonight (34 of 66) and 47.1% (10 of 14) from behind the three-point line while the Dream converted 41.8% of their shots (33 of 79) from the floor and made 31.8% (7 of 22) of their deep shots.

● The quartet of Parker, Quigley, Copper and Vandersloot attempted 46 field goals tonight and combined to convert 54% of them. These four Sky players also accounted for 67 of Chicago’s 86 total points.

● The Sky capitalized off its opponent’s mistakes, as the team scored 20 points off turnovers in comparison to Atlanta’s 5 points off turnovers.

● Aside from an Atlanta 18-15 point total advantage in the second quarter, Chicago outscored Atlanta in every other quarter by at least 4 points.

 

CHICAGO NOTES

● With 21 points tonight, Sky guard Allie Quigley recorded her third consecutive game with 20-plus points scored. Through this stretch, the DePaul product is averaging 25.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 77.8% from behind the arc.

● Sky forward Kahleah Copper finished with the third-most points scored (16) on Tuesday. This season, she has scored at least 10 points in all but three games.

● Chicago snapped its two-game losing streak with a win tonight and boasts an 8-4 record away from Wintrust Arena in 2021.

● In front of 1,292 people in attendance, the Sky logged 42 points in the paint while the Dream finished with 34 points in the paint.

● After playing a season-low 16 minutes against the Dallas Wings on August 17, 2021, Parker recorded 28:57 minutes of action versus the Dream.
