Q: What are some improvements you would like to make this year as an individual?
A: “Agility, strength, conditioning, and getting up and down the court quicker.”
Q: Coming into your second year, how have you seen the team improve and how do you think your role is changing?
A: “I think last year we accomplished something a lot of people didn’t expect of us by making it to the finals. As a team that was a huge accomplishment with different personalities and different players meshing at the same time. This year the sky is the limit and now we are a team to watch. My role is to be more vocal on and off the court.”
Q: What do you anticipate as your biggest challenge this upcoming season?
A: “To maintain and stay consistent day in day out. There are days where you’re not going to feel like working out and days where you struggle, but have that same work ethic and fight through. I always work hard, but it’s just that consistency and making sure I set the standard high.”
Q: What is your favorite part about playing in Chicago?
A: “The fans. They are so into it and so supportive. I feel like our fans are one of a kind.”
Q: What is your favorite road city to play in?
A: “Atlanta. I’m from Mississippi, and it’s a six hour drive, so that’s the closest place my family can come watch me play.”
Q: What is your favorite team outside the WNBA?
A: “The US Women’s National soccer team. My favorite player was Briana Scurry, but she stopped playing. I have an appreciation for all goalkeepers because that’s what I played when I was younger.”
Q: What do you do to relax?
A: “I read and watch movies. Sometimes I take a book to the movie theaters and in-between movies I would read.”
Q: What is your favorite book?
A: “The Shack.”
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: “Everything. I am a movie lover. I love everything from the Avengers to The Hundred Foot Journey to documentaries. I love history, so I love the History Channel.”
Q: What is your favorite holiday?
A: “I love Christmas because I like Christmas lights.”
Q: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be and why?
A: “The education system. I feel like our kids aren’t getting a proper public education.”
Q: What made an impact on you in your youth?
A: “My high school history teacher. Her name was Ms. Stewart. She was literally the best teacher I’ve ever had. She’s the reason why I love history and she’s the reason why I want to be a teacher.”
Q: Who inspires you?
A: “My mom.”
Q: Who in women’s basketball inspires you?
A: “A couple people inspire me. Tamika Catchings, Tammy Sutton-Brown and Sylvia Fowles. Those three are my core soundboards. If I’m every struggling or feel like I need help or need wisdom, I can call on one of those three and they will be there for me no matter what.”
Q: If you could have dinner with one person, who would it be and why?
A: “George Washington because I would want to know why he didn’t go to war for the French Revolution.”
Q: If you were a GM of a team, who would your starting five and head coach be?
A: “Steve Nash would be my point guard. I would have Tina Thompson, Sheryl Swoopes, and Tamika Whitmore. My center would be… I would pick myself because I feel like I should be on the team. I would have two coaches: Coach Popovich and Pokey as his assistant.”
Q: What do you hope for in the future of the WNBA?
A: “I really hope that in the future our fan base grows. Not just from women and the LGBT community. I feel like those are our core supporters, and I would like to see it expand over to the college basketball fans and the NBA fans. I think some players in the NBA like watching the WNBA and I would like to see that expand a little more.”
Q: What does the Sky mean to you?
A: “This is my second year, so I am still trying to find my own identity with the team. When I think about the Chicago Sky I think about a close knit, family type organization. A true family interaction.”
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: “My work ethic and my character. I might not have been the best, but I worked my hardest and I gave all I could.”
Q: What is your personal mission statement?
A: “I might not get there today, I might not get there tomorrow, but every day I make a stride to get there.”
