CHICAGO (December 18, 2024) — The Chicago Sky announced today that former WNBA veteran and collegiate standout Courtney Paris will join Head Coach Tyler Marsh’s staff as an assistant coach.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to Jeff and Tyler for the opportunity to join the Chicago Sky organization,” Paris said. “Through this process, I’ve had the chance to get to know Tyler, and I am truly inspired by his vision and leadership. I’m eager to support him and the entire coaching staff as we work together to elevate this team.

“Having immense respect for the players—both from competing against them and through my coaching journey—I am committed to being a resource for them, not only on the court but also in their growth off the court. Our shared goals and dedication drive my excitement to contribute to this team’s success. I can’t wait to get to work!”

Paris was selected by the Sacramento Monarchs as the seventh overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft. Over her 11 season WNBA career, Paris played for the Tulsa Shock and Dallas Wings, before heading to Seattle where she won a championship with the Storm in 2018. She was a two-time WNBA Peak Performer award winner (2014, 2015) in Rebounds and the WNBA Community Assist Award winner in August of 2009. She also played nine seasons overseas in Turkey, Spain and Israel.

“We are extremely excited to have Courtney join our staff here in Chicago,” Marsh said. “She brings a decade of WNBA experience as a player and as a coach that will surely benefit our players. She will be an invaluable resource and mentor here and we cannot wait to have her on our team.”

The Bay Area native had one of the biggest collegiate careers in school history at Oklahoma from 2005-09. She finished her Sooner career as the all-time leader in points, points per game, rebounds, rebounds per game, total blocks and field goals made. She became the first player ever, regardless of gender, to accumulate 2,500 career points and 2,000 career rebounds. Paris also holds the NCAA record for consecutive double-doubles at 112 games. She is the only player in NCAA history to record 700 points, 500 rebounds and 100 blocks in a single season — a feat she accomplished twice in her career.

The OU alum was also named AP National Player of the Year in 2007, a four-time Naismith and Wooden Award Finalist, three-time Big 12 Player of the Year, two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. She ended her illustrious collegiate career holding 20 NCAA and 69 Oklahoma records. Paris was honored with a jersey retirement at OU in 2017.

Paris was most recently an assistant coach for the Wings under Latricia Trammell from 2023-24 and on the coaching staff at her Oklahoma alma mater from 2020-21.
