Courtney Vandersloot Re-Signs With Chicago Sky

CHICAGO – The Chicago Sky has officially re-signed veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot to a multi-year contract, the franchise announced today.

“We are thrilled to finish our free agency signings on a big note,” said Sky General Manager and Head Coach James Wade. “To have the All-WNBA First Team point guard and MVP candidate coming back to lead our ball club is huge for us. Last season was an incredible season for her and the Sky, so we’re looking forward to Sloot leading us to achieve our goals this season.”

Vandersloot rejoins Chicago following a record-setting 2019 campaign in which she was named to the All-WNBA First Team for the first time in her career, having made two previous All-WNBA Second Team appearances (2015, 2018), returned to the WNBA All-Star Game eight years after making her All-Star debut during her 2011 rookie year, and earned her third consecutive WNBA Peak Performer Award for assists.

The 5-foot-8 guard made history when she finished the 2019 season averaging a WNBA-record 9.1 assists in 33 games, breaking her own previously-held record of 8.6 assists per game set in 2018. It marked the first time in WNBA history a player has surpassed a 9.0 assists average.

Vandersloot made history once more last season when she became the first WNBA player to reach 300 assists in a single season, recording 12 double-figure assist games. She moved into the No. 1 spot on the WNBA’s all-time list when her six double-doubles with assists in 2019 totaled 29 for her career, putting her ahead of Sue Bird’s previously held record of 28.

“The ownership, coaching staff, my teammates, and the Chicago Sky fans have been nothing but supportive my whole career,” Vandersloot said. “I love being on the Chicago Sky and look forward to competing for a championship.”

Originally drafted by Chicago with the No. 3 overall pick of the 2011 WNBA Draft out of Gonzaga University, the upcoming season will mark Vandersloot’s 10th year with the franchise.

Vandersloot will reunite with teammates Allie Quigley, Stefanie Dolson and Kahleah Copper, who have all re-signed with Chicago in free agency, when the Sky tips off the 2020 WNBA season on May 15 at Wintrust Arena.
