Chicago Sky, New York Liberty Meet for Final Time This Season

Following a loss to the Washington Mystics, the Chicago sky continue their two game road trip in the Northeast to play the New York Liberty on Sunday, July 15th at Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York.

FACING THE LIBERTY

New York and Chicago have met three times this season with Chicago winning two of the games. Overall, the series is tied 24-24.

Despite losing in their most recent matchup on July 1, in a game decided by a thrilling overtime performance, many players from the Sky notched their season highs in multiple categories. Allie Quigley recorded her season high 28 points, Courtney Vandersloot shot her season high 20 points and Stefanie Dolson recorded her season high 10 rebounds. The team overall shot 87% from the free throw line and defensively held the Liberty to 31.6% from behind the arc.

On June 29, the Sky recorded 103 points making that their highest points scored, leading a team to victory over the Liberty. The Sky shot above 50 % in points scored, three pointers, and free throws. Rookie forward Diamond Deshields led the team in scoring posting 22 points while veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot recorded 11 assists.

Chicago’s home opener against New York on May 20th ended in a victory for the Sky. While Tina Charles led the Liberty with 19 points and four assists, Allie Quigley poured in 22 points and Jamierra Faulkner led the bench with 14 points, five assists and five rebounds.

PLAYOFF CONTENTION

The Sky currently sit at No. 10 and a win over the Liberty to end the series is what they will need to keep pushing to make it to the No. 8 spot and make a playoff run.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Allie Quigley
Veteran guard Allie Quigley continues to lead the team in points, posting 17 points in yesterday’s matchup against the Mystics. Quigley is also a force to be reckoned with from behind the arc, ranking fifth in the league, watch as Quigley continues to dominate from that angle.

Courtney Vandersloot
Another veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot continues to lead the team in assists, posting five in the first quarter alone in yesterday’s game. Vandersloot and Quigley combined for all of Chicago’s points from behind the arch in the first half in their matchup against the Mystics. Between creating scoring opportunities and making sure her shots count, watch as Vandersloot continues to be a vital role for this Chicago team.

THE SKY OFFENSE

The Chicago Sky offense has continued to outscore their opponent in the fast breaks for the last six games. Look for Cheyenne Parker who leads the team in blocks to continue to create these quick scoring opportunities.
