Chicago Sky Sign Guard Sydney Colson

CHICAGO – The Chicago Sky has signed veteran point guard Sydney Colson. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not released.

“We are very pleased to announce the signing of Sydney Colson,” said Sky General Manager and Head Coach James Wade. “Sydney has been a winner on every team she has been on. We are looking forward to having another dynamic, change-of-pace point guard. Even more so, we’re confident she will be a great addition to our locker room.”

Colson, an unrestricted free agent, enters her seventh WNBA season. She comes to Chicago after spending 2019 with the Las Vegas Aces. She appeared in 33 games for the Aces last season, averaging 3.3 points, 1.8 assists and 11.5 minutes per game.

Originally selected by the Connecticut Sun with a second-round, No. 16 overall pick of the 2011 WNBA Draft, the Texas A&M product and NCAA champion spent her rookie campaign with New York after being acquired by the Liberty in a draft-day trade. She played for New York through the 2012 preseason, before heading overseas, where she competed in Poland for the next three years.

A 5-foot-8, Houston, Texas native, Colson returned to the WNBA in 2015 when she was signed by the now-relocated San Antonio Stars. After three seasons with the Stars (2015-2018), Colson saw stints with the Las Vegas Aces and Minnesota Lynx before she was picked up by the Aces in May 2019.

The Chicago Sky’s 2020 season tips off on Saturday, May 15 with a home opener at Wintrust Arena. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster, at sky.wnba.com/tickets, or by calling (866) SKY-WNBA.
