Chicago Sky Set 11-Player Roster

CHICAGO (May 26, 2020) – The Chicago Sky waived guards Alexis Prince and Japreece Dean, the team announced today. Additionally, forward Kiah Gillespie will sit out the 2020 WNBA season for personal reasons.

Dean and Gillespie were selected by the Sky in the third-round of the 2020 WNBA Draft, with the No. 32 and 30 overall picks, respectively. Drafted out of Florida State University, 6-foot-2 Gillespie averaged 21 points and 10.3 rebounds per game on 52.6 percent shooting her senior season.

Prince was signed a training camp contract in February. Originally acquired by the Phoenix Mercury with the 29th pick of the 2017 WNBA Draft, she competed in 18 games with the Mercury in 2017 and two games for the Atlanta Dream in 2018 before playing professionally overseas in Spain and, most recently, Turkey.

Chicago now sits with 11 players on the roster for what will be the Sky’s 15th season as a franchise.

“I’m most looking forward to us being in the pre-practice circle for the first time,” said Sky General Manager and Head Coach James Wade. “That’s the one time when I can see everybody’s faces at the same moment, [and we’re standing as] one team. That’s probably the one thing I’ve missed the most, us being together, getting ready for a common goal – and that’s to be the best team that we can possibly be.”

WNBA All-Stars Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley, Diamond DeShields, Stefanie Dolson and Jantel Lavendar will all be returning to the Sky.

“We are anxious for that day to come,” Wade said. “We’re just going to be patient, and wait, and when that day comes, we’ll be ready.”
