Chicago Sky Re-Sign WNBA All-Star and WNBA Finals MVP Kahleah Copper

CHICAGO – The Chicago Sky have re-signed 2021 WNBA Finals MVP and WNBA All-Star guard/forward Kahleah Copper, the team announced today, officially locking in the return of the Sky’s core players for the upcoming 2022 WNBA season.

“I can’t wait to be back, especially with our core returning,” Copper said. “We want to run it back and we know it won’t be easy, but with all of us 100% committing and making sacrifices for each other, I really like our chances. Chi-town let’s get it!”

It has been a meteoric rise for the Philadelphia native since joining Chicago’s starting lineup in 2020, which quickly became her breakout season, averaging 14.8 points per game on 49.8 percent shooting – more than double her previous best scoring average of 7.1 points per game in 2018.

In just six seasons of the Sky’s 17-year history, Copper has made her way to be among the top 10 all-time franchise leaders in totals nearly across the board, including in games played (155), points scored (1,478), field goals made (552), field goals attempted (1,238), field-goal percentage (44.6), three-pointers made (293) and both three-point (32.8) and free-throw percentage (80.6).

Last year, Copper, 6’1”, made her first WNBA All-Star appearance and finished the 2021 regular season averaging 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and an 81.8 free-throw percentage in 30.8 minutes per game. She recorded a career-high of 17.7 points per game in the 2021 WNBA Playoffs, pushing the team to their first WNBA Championship and to being named 2021 WNBA Finals MVP.

Copper enters her seventh WNBA season and sixth with Chicago (2017-21), only missing one game in five-year career with the Sky. She will rejoin the Sky’s core of Candace Parker, Courtney Vandersloot, Azurá Stevens and Allie Quigley when the 2022 WNBA season kicks off this May.
