Chicago Sky add Kamiah Smalls, Rebekah Gardner to training camp roster

CHICAGO – The Chicago Sign has signed guards Kamiah Smalls and Rebekah Gardner to training camp contracts, Sky General Manager James Wade announced today.

“We are very happy to announce the signings of Rebekah and Kamiah. They are two players that have really worked on their game very hard and they deserve this opportunity. We are very excited for them to join our SkyTown family!”

Selected by the Indiana Fever with the 28th overall pick of the 2020 WNBA Draft, Smalls (5-10) appeared in seven games with Indiana in 2020 before being released, averaging 3.9 points, 2.0 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game. On August 31, 2020, during the shooting guard’s league debut against Chicago, Smalls became the fourth player in Fever history to score at least 13 points in a debut with the team, recording 13 points on 4-for-4 shooting, with four rebounds and two assists off the bench.

A native of Philadelphia, Smalls currently plays professionally for Poland’s Pszczółka Polski-Cukier AZS-UMCS Lublin, where she is averaging 19.1 points, 4.0 assists and 4.9 rebounds across 12 games.

Gardner’s training camp invitation is her first WNBA contract. After going undrafted out of UCLA in the 2012 WNBA Draft, Gardner (6-1) has since played professionally with Spanish women’s basketball club Spar CityLift Girona (2021-22), where she is averaging 13 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 28 minutes per game is 13 appearances with the team.

Smalls and Gardner will join the team when training camp opens in April. Chicago will open the upcoming 2022 season on home court at Wintrust Arena, hosting the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday, May 6.
