Chicago Sky Acquires Marina Mabrey in Four-Team Trade

CHICAGO (February 11, 2023)  —  The Chicago Sky announced today the team has acquired guard Marina Mabrey in a four-team trade with the New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury and Dallas Wings. As part of the trade, Chicago also receives Phoenix’s 2024 2nd Round Pick.

Michaela Onyenwere (from New York)

2025 2nd Round Pick (from Chicago)

“We cannot wait to welcome Marina into the Chicago Sky family,” General Manager and Head Coach James Wade said. “Adding a player such as Marina who can play both guard positions, is a talented sharpshooter and gives her all every single game will all be vital for our team this year. We are looking forward to having her as a big addition to our roster.”

The 5-11 guard currently plays for Italian club Schio, alongside newly signed Astou Ndour-Fall. With Schio, she’s currently averaging 18.9 points on 49.4% shooting from beyond the arc in 26.2 minutes. In EuroLeague, she averages 13.7 points on 36.7% three-point shooting.

Originally drafted by Los Angeles with the 19th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft, she was then traded to Dallas prior to the 2020 season, where she played until 2022. In Dallas, she averaged 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds on 36.1% three-point shooting. Last season, she averaged her highest scoring season of her career at 13.6 points per game in 28.0 minutes.

The Notre Dame alum made the most threes in program history (274), shot the fifth highest three-point shooting percentage at 40.0% from beyond the arc and scored the eighth most points (1,896) during her four years with the Fighting Irish. She also helped lead Notre Dame to an NCAA Championship title in 2018.
