Sky to Begin 2015 Playoffs at the UIC Pavilion

In the first round of the 2015 WNBA Playoffs presented by Boost Mobile the Sky’s first home game will be played at the UIC (University of Illinois Chicago) Pavilion. The change of venue is due to Allstate Arena hosting Marvel Universe Live! from Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20. The WNBA Playoffs officially begin on Thursday, September 17. The final seeding, parings, dates and times will not be determined until the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday, September 13, 2015.

The UIC Pavilion housed the Chicago Sky from the team’s 2006 inception until the 2010 WNBA season when the Sky’s home moved to Allstate Arena. Last season the pavilion was the site of Game 3 of the 2014 WNBA Finals presented by Boost Mobile. Located at the corner of Harrison and Racine, the Pavilion is easily accessible from the Eisenhower, Kennedy and Dan Ryan expressways. Chicago Transit Authority buses and rapid transit trains also stop right at the Pavilion.

The first round of the WNBA playoffs is a two-out-of-three series (meaning the first team to two wins moves on to the next round). The top two seeds in each conference have the home court advantage for the series. The games alternate home sites starting at the home of the top seed.

The winning team in each first round series advances to the Conference Finals. This round is also a two-out-of-three series and again alternates home sites starting at the home of the top seed. The WNBA Finals Champion is determined in a best three-out-of-five series. The first two games are played at the home of the top seed, followed by two games (game 4 if needed) at the home of the lower seed. If the teams are tied at the end of four games, the fifth and final game is played at the home of the top seed.
