Sky Sign Veteran Guard-Forward Alex Montgomery

The Chicago Sky have signed veteran guard-forward Alex Montgomery, General Manager and Head Coach Amber Stocks announced Tuesday. Per team policy, terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Entering her seventh WNBA season, Montgomery joins the Sky after spending three seasons with the San Antonio Stars (now the newly relocated Las Vegas Aces).

“Alex is an experienced vet,” Stocks said. “She has the ability to play both forward positions, space the court with her three-point shooting and will impact our team significantly in regards to rebounding. We are extremely happy to welcome Alex to Chicago.”

A 6-foot-1 graduate of Georgia Tech, Montgomery was originally selected by the New York Liberty with the 10th overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft. She was traded to the Stars in 2015.

During her 2017 season with San Antonio, Montgomery ranked second on the team in rebounding, fourth in assists (2.1), and fourth in free throw percentage (.826).

“First, I would like to thank Amber Stocks and the entire Chicago Sky organization for giving me another opportunity to play in the WNBA,” Montgomery said. “Words can’t explain how excited I am to be a part of the Sky family. Knowing that I can be a valuable piece to the puzzle means a lot to me.”

The Chicago Sky will tip off the 2018 season on the road against the Indiana Fever on Saturday, May 19. An event-filled 2018 home opener will follow at Wintrust Arena on Sunday, May 20 to celebrate the team’s first season at new state-of-the-art South Loop venue. Fans can expect an action-packed lineup of entertainment, activities, prizes and giveaways leading up to when the Sky takes on the New York Liberty at 6 p.m.
