Brooke Wyckoff was one of the first players to make an impact on the new Chicago Sky franchise. After joining the franchise via the Expansion Draft of 2005, Wyckoff quickly cemented herself as a fan favorite. A member of the original starting five, Brooke will forever be in the franchise’s record books as scoring the first ever basket in a Sky home game and it was her work ethic, bright smile and charismatic personality that really won over the Sky fans.

“Chicago is such an amazing city,” said Brooke. “I was born here, so when I heard they were going to have a team, I was really excited, and when I heard they were drafting me I was even more excited! It was such a great experience living there in the summer and being back around my family was great.”

Drafted in 2001 by the Orlando Miracle, Wyckoff split the first four seasons of her WNBA career between them and the Connecticut Sun before coming to Chicago in 2006. Originally from Lake Forest, IL, Wyckoff started 13 games for the Sky in their inaugural season, averaging 3.3 points per game. Looked upon as a team leader, Wyckoff’s 2.2 assists that season was a career high.

Sky fans got the chance to see a lot of their favorite player during the 2007 and 2008 seasons as Brooke saw action in all 68 contests, one of two players to do so during that time period. Wyckoff appeared in 27 games, starting 23 of them in the 2009 season before an ACL injury forced her to miss the remainder of the season.

Wyckoff was known for her prolific three-point shooting, posting a 33.0% shooting percentage from behind the arc while wearing a Sky uniform. In the 2009 season, her final season with the team, Wyckoff shot 39.2% from the three-point line, knocking down 20 threes in 27 games.

Since hanging up her Sky jersey in 2009, Brooke is back at the place where her WNBA dreams began, Florida State University, embarking on the next phase of her basketball career… coaching.

For Brooke, FSU was where it all started. “When I played at Florida State I really wanted to make it into the WNBA,” she said. Brooke sparked the rise of the Florida State women’s basketball program, she was a standout player on the court from 1997 to 2001. In her senior year, she led the Seminoles to their first winning season in nine years, which culminated in the school’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Wyckoff will always be a fan favorite here in Chicago and its no surprise that Sky fans voted her in as number 10 in the franchises All-Time Top-10 player selection.
