The Sky Cares Foundation presented by Magellan Corporation has joined forces with the Cook County Circuit Court Clerk and the Juvenile Probation Department to host the Clean Slate Summit, a first-of-its-kind youth-focused event that provides Chicago’s underserved youth the necessary resources, legal guidance, and mentorship to petition to expunge their arrest and court records and be provided an equal opportunity for a successful future.

What to expect at the summit:

Volunteer attorneys will provide attendees with one-on-one education and personalized information about the expungement process and juvenile criminal system. It will also provide an opportunity for records to be reviewed to file petitions for automatic expungements. The summit will also include:

  • Lawyers to help answer questions and help with the process to file your expungement papers
  • Opportunity to obtain a State ID
  • Complimentary transportation for groups to and from the Summit
  • Complimentary registration

Other organizations and resources will also be available to help you with:

  • Job opportunities
  • Re-enrollment into school
  • Higher Education
  • Housing options
  • Scholarship opportunities

AUTOMATIC EXPUNGEMENT:

  • Arrested as a minor
    • No petition for delinquency
    • 60 days since last arrest
    • Six months since last delinquency or charges

PETITION FOR EXPUNGEMENT:

  • Charged and found guilty
    • 18 years or older
    • Five year since last incident or 21 years or older

JUVENILE CASES THAT CANNOT BE EXPUNGED:

  • Class 2 felony or higher
  • First degree murder
  • Sex offenses that would be considered felonies if committed by an adult.

Please take a moment to review the Youth Opportunity and Fairness Act (HB 3817/SB 2021), now referred to as Public Act 100-285 to learn more information about the law and see if you are eligible to have your record automatically expunged.
