Preview Sky vs. Liberty 7/30

The Chicago Sky (8-15) host the visiting Eastern Conference rivals New York Liberty (11-10).

Sky’s top scoring duo of Stephanie Dolson and Allie Quigley had double-digit scoring at the half. Dolson finished with a game-high and career-high 29 points, and Quigley finished with 19 points in Friday’s 86-80 loss to the Phoenix Mercury (12-10).

Mercury leading scorer was forward was Camille Little, she had 19 points, but the bench-scoring was also a key factor. The reserve’s put together a 43 point performance, led by Monique Currie’s 18 off the bench.

The game was a close knit battle, there was thirteen lead changes and twelve ties throughout the contest. The free-throw differential ended up the deciding factor, the Sky only shot 6-8 compared to the Mercury’s 29-33.

The Sky and New York Liberty are tied up 22-22 in their all time series. The Sky won 78-68 in their most previous meeting on July 14.

In the game, Sky’s Dolson had 23 points on 10-14 shooting. The Sky starting backcourt was productive in both scoring and distributing the ball. Courtney Vandersloot had 13 points, 9 assists, and Quigley got 10 points, 8 assists.

Liberty All-Star forward Tina Charles had a powerful double-double vs. the Sky. She scored 23 points and grabbed 19 rebounds.

The Sky shot 45% while holding the Liberty to just 35%. The Sky defense also picked up 9 steals and protected the rim with 5 blocked shots.

The Liberty are coming off back-to-back games (1-1) where the final score was decided by one point. In their most recent game was a nail-biting 85-84 victory vs. The Indiana Fever (8-15).
