Preview Sky vs. Fever 8/4

The Chicago Sky (8-16) travel to play the Indiana Fever (8-16) in an Eastern Conference showdown.

The Chicago Sky’s dynamic backcourt of Allie Quigley and Courtney Vandersloot put in work during Sunday’s 86-82 loss vs. the Liberty (12-10). Quigley dropped a game-high 22 points, including 4-6 from downtown, snagged 7 rebounds, and dished 5 assists. WNBA’s current assists leading Vandersloot (7.4 assists per a game) stayed true to form, she recorded a double-double with 12 points, 10 assists. Jessica Breland had a double-double as well, she finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds.

Liberty leading scorer was forward Tina Charles, she had 15 points, 12 rebounds. The bench-scoring came up big for the Liberty. Sharp-shooting Sugar Rodgers had 14 points off the bench, including 4-7 from three-point range, and Kiah Stokes got a double-double performance of the bench with 10 points, 16 rebounds.

The Sky defense put together 7-blocked shots, but they lost the rebounding battle 37-28. The Sky also struggled to get to the free-this line, they finished only 8-11 from the stripe.

June 28 was the last time the Sky and Fever met, and it ended with a 82-75 Fever victory. The Sky were short-handed and without their All-Star center Stephanie Dolson, she was under the weather. In the contest, the Sky shot a disappointing 12.5% from three-point range, and Quigley and Vandersloot combined for only 9 points. The Sky also loss the turnover battle 17-8.

The Fever had five players hit double-figures in scoring, led by Candice Dupree’s 17 points. Guard Erica Wheeler added 13 points, including 3-6 from three-point range.

The Fever are 1-9 in their past 10 games. Their most recent loss came to the hands of the Connecticut Sun (14-9) 86-73. In the game, the Fever had an awful first half scoring, they combined for only 28 points at halftime.
