Sky Guy Cheers on Lisle Girls Softball Team

The Chicago Sky takes a vested interest in local athletics.

As such, the Sky has partnered with Athletics2000 to create the High School Teams of the Month program. This program distinguishes high school teams that exhibit teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership on and off the court.

As a Team of the Month recipient, each squad is awarded a Chicago Sky Team Night Out ticket package and a $250 prize to be awarded by Sky Guy.

For the month of June, the Lisle Regional softball team was awarded this distinction.

Lisle initially played Woodlands Academy in the first round of post-season play, winning 7-2. They then moved on to face St. Edwards who advanced after defeating Walter Lutheran. Lisle and St. Edward have a historical rivalry: Lisle has eliminated St. Edwards from the post-season for two straight seasons. In a game earlier this season, Lisle routed St. Edwards.

Leading this team to success are their veteran leaders according to head coach Jennifer Pomatto. You know these girls have been together for a long time and we have a big class of juniors, five seniors that have been together for a while, she said. I have always known these girls are special and they are just a great group of girls. They are very open and excepting and have done a great job this year.

Third baseman, junior, MacKenzie Buchelt agrees.

I have been really proud of the team, there is not really one particular moment, but how we have played as a whole. We are close to each other and we really are a family.

Pomatto believes that her 2011 team has the potential to find success on an even higher level.

This team can go all the way, she said. The last two years we have gone to the game before State and we have lost, but this team is ready to go and hopefully we will be playing next weekend.

Buchelt considers her team a serious post-season threat that has been able to build on previous successes.

I am really pleased with how we have gone. We have come out and really beat some good teams and beat the ones we have needed to beat and hopefully we will go all the way. I knew that right after we finished the season last year I feel like we knew that this year was going to be good.

After winning the sectional semi-final, Sky Guy presented the team with the $250 prize. He also posed for photos with members of both teams and coaching staffs while distributing Chicago Sky t-shirts and wristbands.
