Sky Gets Ready for Rookie Sensation Maya Moore

While everyone is talking about rookie sensation Maya Moore and the splash she has made in the WNBA, Minnesota is a far different team than the one that finished 13-21 and missed the playoffs in 2010.

Yes, Moore was the overall #1 pick in the draft, and is in the top four in points, rebounds and assists, steals, minutes among all rookies.

But on the Lynx, she is one piece in a well oiled machine that leads the Western Conference with a gaudy 16-4 record and has won the last 9 straight games through Sunday Aug 7, when they beat the Sparks on the road 84-78.

The Lynx leading scorer is five year pro Seimone Augustus, who appears to be fully recovered from the severe knee injury she suffered at Phoenix in 2009 and the abdominal surgery she underwent last year. Augustus has been on a tear, and recently was named the July Western Conference Player of the month for July. She, in addition to Moore, was one of four all-stars on the Minnesota roster this season. No other team had more than three. Their other two all-stars are forward Rebekkah Brunson who averages just under ten boards a game and floor general Lindsay Whalen who leads the league in assists.

While the Sky feels comfortable beating anyone at home as is evident by Sundays dismantling of the Eastern Conference leading Fever, the Lynx come into Friday nights game with a 6-1 record versus the Eastern Conference this year including a perfect 3-0 record on the road.

The push for the playoffs has begun and every game counts, particularly at home. Look for Chicago to come out with a lot of energy in this all-star studded matchup.
