High School Winners for March

The Chicago Sky and Athletics2000 have named the Bolingbrook Girls Basketball team and the Glenbard West Boys Wrestling team as the High School Teams of the Month for March, the first winners in the newfound campaign to recognize high school teams that demonstrate excellence in teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership on and off the court.

Over the course of March, participating high school athletic teams from Chicago and its neighboring suburbs were nominated by parents, coaches, faculty members and players through the Chicago Skys online nomination system. The subsequent voting to select one winning girls team and one winning boys team was tabulated by Athletics2000.

The girls winner, the Bolingbrook Lady Raiders, won their third straight state championship, while making their seventh straight final four and sixth consecutive championship game. The team displayed remarkable talent and discipline in 2011, and proudly represented Bolingbrook High School as well as their families and community.

The Hilltoppers from Glenbard West not only had an excellent turnaround from 2010, improving their dual record by 11 victories this season, but they earned a state Honorable Mention ranking, multiple tournament championships and the schools first State Qualifier in two years. The team also excelled off the matt, hosting and running the first ever "Take Down Heart Disease - Pack the Place" event benefiting the American Heart Association and the Jim Stano Memorial Scholarship Fund. Additionally, many of the boys volunteer as youth wrestling coaches.

Courtesy of the Chicago Sky, both teams will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to a 2011 Sky regular season home game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the worlds best female basketball players. They will meet and talk to Sky players and coaches before the game and be honored on the Sky court during halftime.

As part of the celebration of the teams successes, the two winners will also have the Sky Experience brought to one of their home games, where the Sky will present them with a $250 prize.

The Sky and Athletics2000 will be recognizing two High School sports team each month through May, one boys and one girls, as part of its High School Team of the Month program.

The Sky accepts nominations from parents, coaches, faculty members and players of the participating schools from the 1st 15th of each month prior to the voting period opening on the 16th of each month. Nomination forms can be accessed and submitted on participating school websites.
