Epiphanny Prince: Prince of Thieves

Not even two minutes had past in the first quarter, in the first game, of the 2011 season and Epiphanny Prince had her first steal of the year. Playing for Head Coach Pokey Chatman overseas in Russia, Prince transitioned back to her natural two guard position from point guard and it worked wonders. The young guard in her second year with the Chicago Sky lit it up in 2011, averaging 13.6 points, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game, nearly doubling her numbers from her rookie year.

Prince showed how much she improved over the past year, especially, in the first half of the WNBA season. Prince scored in double digits in 16 of 17 games and already had 56 steals. Coaches around the league took notice of her great play, as she earned her first ever spot on the Eastern Conference All-Star team as a reserve player. Prince played 20 minutes in the All-Star game, and went 3-of-7 from the field, with eight points and two steals.

On August 23, against the Atlanta Dream at Allstate Arena, Epiphannys fifth steal was her 74th on the season, setting a Sky single season record previously owned by Jia Perkins in 2009. Prince finished the year with 79 steals ranking her second in the WNBA in 2011, and the all-time steals leader for the Sky.

I am always aggressive in the help side, said Prince, after her five steal performance against Tulsa in July. My teammates get their hands on a lot of balls and if I can get my hand on it, I always try to pursue the steal.

Prince came off the bench for the last seven games of the season, as Head Coach Pokey Chatman switched to a veteran line up with Erin Thorn and Dominique Canty as the two starting guards but regardless of coming off the bench Prince still scored in double-digits in four games thanks to her deadly crossover jump shot and continued to pick opponents pockets on her way to breaking the Sky steals record.
