Cappie Pondexter, a 10-year WNBA veteran, played for Besiktas in Istanbul in her fifth season playing in Turkey. Besiktas finished in ninth place in BKBL with a 10-16 record and was eliminated from EuroCup playoffs after holding a 7-6 record. Pondexter led Besiktas in scoring with 20.6 points per game in EuroCup and 20.1 in BKBL.

Besiktas pulled off a much-needed win by edging Botas 70-69. Besiktas was down 29-15 at the end of the first quarter. However, they outscored Botas the next two quarters to secure the win. Pondexter scored a team-best 15 points. She also had four rebounds and three assists. Pondexter is the second-leading scorer in the BKBL, averaging 20.0 points per game.

A 71-63 win over EuroCup QuarterFinal foe AGU Spor eliminated Besiktas’ chance to advance to the Final Four. Although Besiktas won the second game of the series, AGU totaled more points than Besiktas in the series. Pondexter marked 23 points, six rebounds and five assists. Besiktas dropped its last three BKBL games, including the March 14 matchup at Edirne and March 17 game against Mersin BSB. Besiktas is 9-13 in the BKBL and Pondexter is the league’s second-highest scorer with an average of 20.2 points per game.

Besiktas dropped the first game of the EuroCup Quarter-Finals 79-68 to AGU Spor. Besiktas took a 17-14 lead to end the first quarter, but AGU scored 31 points in the second. Besiktas was held to 10 points in the fourth quarter which led to their defeat. AGU only had eight turnovers compared to Besiktas’ 14 mishaps in the game. Pondexter recorded 18 points and five rebounds. Besiktas will face AGU in game two on March 11.

Pondexter’s game-high 30 points was not enough to carry Besiktas (9-11) to an upset win over top-ranked Fenerbahce (17-3) on February 28. A low-scoring second quarter and a large rebounding difference cost Besiktas the victory. Fenerbahce outrebounded Besiktas, 52-26. It was the last regular season matchup between the two teams and the two-game series is split 1-1.

In what was a close KBSL competition, eighth-placed Besiktas (9-10) topped fourth-ranked AGU (13-6) 71-65 on February 13. Pondexter recorded 16 points and five rebounds in 36 minutes on the floor.

Besiktas defeated second-placed Hatay BSB on February 7 with an outstanding performance by Pondexter. Pondexter accounted for 32 of Besiktas’ total 84 points. She shot a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line and was 6-for-11 from the field. Pondexter also collected seven defensive rebounds and four assists in the 84-77 win. Besiktas is 8-10 in KBSL and is in eighth place.

Pondexter maintains the third spot on the KBSL top scorers list; she is averaging 19.2 points per game. On January 31, Pondexter led her team in scoring with 21 points in Besiktas’ 81-78 loss to Adana Aski. Besiktas advanced to the EuroCup Women’s Quarter-Finals after defeating Reyer Venezia 64-62 on February 4. The game went into overtime, despite Besiktas being down 56-48 at the end of regulation because the total scores from both games were tied at 123. Besiktas opened the additional period on a 10-0 run, which ultimately led them to its victory. Pondexter finished with 20 points and five rebounds.

Pondexter had a game-high 26 points in Besiktas’ 87-78 loss to Orduspor on January 17. She is the third-highest scorer in the KBSL, as she is averaging 19.1 points per game. On January 28, Besiktas topped Reyer Venezia 75-67 in the EuroCup playoffs. Besiktas dominated in the paint, outscoring the visitors 36-16. Pondexter scored 18 points and tallied four rebounds and four assists. The teams will square off again on February 4; the winner will advance to the Quarterfinals of the EuroCup.

Besiktas has begun playoff action in the EuroCup. They topped opponent Istanbul Universitesi 82-68 on January 7 and are 1-0 in playoffs. Pondexter was the top scorer with 25 points. On January 10, Besiktas hosted Istanbul U. in a Turkish League contest, where they won 76-62. Pondexter contributed 11 points and six rebounds. In their second playoff matchup, Besiktas fell 80-70 to Istanbul Universitesi; however, Besiktas will advance to the next round of playoffs with a higher total score from both games than Istanbul Universitesi (152-148). Besiktas will play the winner of Reyer Venezia on Tuesday, January 28.

Besiktas faced three losses in a row in Turkish League play. Pondexter put up big numbers but could not bring her team to victory, including a 34-point performance on December 27. Pondexter posted a team-high 26 points against BGD and Sky teammate Courtney Vandersloot, who also scored 26 points. Besiktas dropped to 10th place in the KBSL ladder.

Besiktas trailed Mersin BSB for the entire game on December 20, although they managed to outscore the host team in the fourth quarter 25-15. Pondexter scored a team-best 23 points as Besiktas was edged 76-68 in the Turkish League competition. Besiktas edged out Botas on December 23 with an 84-80 victory in its home arena. Pondexter posted 14 points and six assists. Besiktas is in seventh place of the Turkish League with a 5-5 record. Pondexter is third in the league in assists per game (5.88). The team will continue to play against its Turkish opponents, although EuroCup competition is on hiatus.

Eighth-placed Besiktas topped Edirne 81-76 on December 13 in Turkish League play. Pondexter scored 18 points and collected seven assists in the win. Pondexter is third in the Turkish League in assists per game (6.14). On December 16, Besiktas dropped a EuroCup contest against Adana. Even with a near double-double by Pondexter (11 points and 8 rebounds), Besiktas could not take the victory and fell 81-76. Pondexter is the second-leading scorer in the EuroCup with 21.0 points per game.

Besiktas took a hard loss against Sparta&K Moscow on December 3, falling 109-58. Thirteen points and six assists by Pondexter was not enough to propel to victory. The team refocused on December 6 and beat Fenerbahce 74-68. Pondexter scored 14 points in the matchup against Sky teammate Allie Quigley who carried her team with 27 points. Besiktas is currently in ninth place in the Turkish League. Besiktas clinched its second consecutive road win in a week over Piestanske Cajky. Both teams struggled offensively in the first half; Besiktas headed into the locker room up 24-20. Both Besiktas and Piestansky Cajky picked up the pace in the second half, going tit-for-tat until Pondexter secured the victory in last minute with six made free throws. Pondexter carried Besiktas to its 65-60 victory with 24 points and six rebounds.

Besiktas kept the score close with AGU Spor on November 29. The score was tied 33-33 at the end of the first half; and while Besiktas gained a three-point advantage by the end of the third quarter, the visiting AGU Spor took charge in the fourth quarter. AGU Spor outscored its host 24-16 in the fourth quarter and sealed the win 73-68. Pondexter logged 14 points and eight assists. Pondexter is currently second in assists per game (6.4) in the Turkish league.

Pondexter averaged 26.5 points per game and helped her team secure two victories last week. Besiktas defeated Sky center Erika de Souza and Adana Aski 87-70 in their second meeting this season. Pondexter scored 30 points in the November 11 game. Besiktas fought to the finish in its Turkish matchup against BB Hatay on November 15. At the end of the first half, the score was tied 39-39. Neither team would relinquish, so overtime was a must. Besiktas came out on top 82-79 led by leading scorer Pondexter, who posted a double-double with 23 points and 11 assists. Pondexter is averaging 17.0 points per game and ranks third in assists per game (6.0) in the Turkish League. She leads the EuroCup in points per game (26.0)Besiktas will return to action on November 29.

A game-high 27 points by Pondexter was not enough to give Besiktas an edge over Piestanske Cajky. Besiktas walked off its home court on November 5 with a 79-75 EuroCup loss. Besiktas secured a victory over Adana Aski on November 8, a matchup that featured a familiar face for Pondexter. Sky center Erika de Souza posted four points and nine rebounds for Adana, while Pondexter nearly notched a double-double 14 points and nine assists in Besiktas’ 83-77 win. The teams will have a rematch on November 11.

Pondexter led her team to a 10-point win on October 29 with 21 points. Besiktas faced Sparta&K in their first EuroCup matchup. On November 2, Besiktas traveled to Ankara, Turkey for a Turkish League matchup against Near East University. Pondexter recorded 14 points and five rebounds but Besiktas fell 77-62.

In her first game with Beşiktaş, Pondexter recorded 17 points and four rebounds but the team fell to Courtney Vandersloot and Orduspor, 87-63. Pondexter’s team is 0-2 in the Turkish League.
