Sky vs Sun Preview 5/14

The 20th WNBA season opens with the Chicago Sky hosting the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, May 14.

The matchup will feature a contest between 2015 WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne and last year’s WNBA Most Improved Player, Connecticut’s Kelsey Bone. Delle Donne finished in the top ten of 30 statistical categories on her way to the MVP honors, while Bone increased her scoring average from 2014 by 6.1 points per game and finished in the top ten in 13 of statistical categories.

Chicago is seeking to improve on a 2015 campaign that saw the team finish the regular season with the best offense in the WNBA, while ranking 11th overall in defense. Seeking to address this need for defense, the Sky used their first-round draft pick to select Imani Boyette, a 6-foot-7 center who left the University of Texas as one of the most prolific shot blockers in school history.

The opener will be Connecticut’s first regular season game under Head Coach Curt Miller. Miller has been a head coach at the collegiate level and an assistant at the WNBA level, but will be making his WNBA head coaching debut. Miller will count on rookie Morgan Tuck to help turn around a team that went 15-19 last season and has missed the WNBA playoffs for three consecutive years.

The Sky went 2-3 in last season’s five meetings with the Sun. The Sky averaged 76.2 points in those five games, which was a 6-point drop-off from their WNBA-leading 82.9 points per game season average.

The Sky’s season opener will tip off at 7 p.m. CT at Allstate Arena in Rosemont. Tickets start as low as $18. Call 866.SKY.WNBA or visit CHICAGOSKY.NET to purchase tickets today.
