Sky vs Sparks Preview 10/02

The Chicago Sky return home on Sunday, October 2 to defend their home court in Game 3 against the Los Angeles Sparks with a 2 p.m. CDT tipoff. The game will be aired on ESPN.

Friday night, the Sky took on the Sparks at Staples Center. In the first quarter, the Sky held close with the Sparks and only maintained a one-point deficit. The Sparks pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back to defeat the Sky 99-84.

Six Sky players scored in double digits led by Clarissa dos Santos with 15 points. Dos Santos not only set playoff career highs in points, but also field goals made (6), field goals attempted (10), rebounds (8), steals (6) and minutes (26). Her six steals are a new Sky playoff record. Jamierra Faulkner added 14 points followed by Cappie Pondexter with 13, Tamera Young with 12, and Allie Quigley and Courtney Vandersloot with 11 a piece. Despite the loss, the Sky outscored the Sparks in the paint 42-to-28 and was 21-of-25 from the free throw line.

For the Sparks, Candace Parker and Jantel Lavender contributed 20 points each with the help of Nneka Ogwumike dropping 18 points. Parker was close to completing the first playoff triple-double in franchise history as she finished the night with 20 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing eight assists. Los Angeles also outshot Chicago on the night 53.7% compared to Chicago’s 38.5%, propelling them to victory.
