The Chicago Sky will take the court against the New York Liberty today in their second preseason game at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The Sky and Liberty are no strangers to facing each other in the pre-season, this being the third consecutive year they have participated in a pre-season match up with the Sky coming out victorious in both previous games hosted at the University of Delaware.
During the 2016 season, the Sky faced the Liberty, also out of the Eastern Conference, three times, going down in that series 2-1. On June 24, the Sky faced the Liberty for the first time in the 2016 season. They were led behind Delle Donne’s 31 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and Pondexter’s 20 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, but still fell short in their 79-80 loss to the Liberty. During their second matchup on July 8, 2016 at Allstate Arena, Allie Quigley scored her career-best 29 points on 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc and 10-of-17 overall, but again the Sky fell short of winning. New York’s, Charles, led the visitors in scoring and rebounding with 29 points and nine rebounds.
In their final matchup on September 16, the Sky came back with a vengeance and defeated the Liberty 92-68 behind Young’s 22 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal and Quiqley’s 18 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
In the Sky’s 2017 preseason debut against the Connecticut Sun, they fell short of a victory in a 72-81 loss. Although Young and Hampton each had a game-high, 11 points and Breland with a game-high 8 rebounds, they couldn’t combat the Sun’s offensive force. On the other hand, the Liberty are coming off of a 65-81 win against the Los Angeles Sparks in their preseason debut on May 2nd.
Tip-off between the Sky and Liberty is scheduled for 4 p.m. CST on Wednesday, May 3 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. The Sky’s regular season tips off on the road at Minnesota on May 14 followed by the home opener on May 19 at Allstate Arena.
