The Chicago Sky (3-11) square up against the San Antonio Stars (0-14), for the second of their three meetings this season, in hopes of keeping the Stars winless.
Chicago Sky forward Jessica Breland, is coming off a dominant performance in the 75-82 loss vs. the Indiana Fever on June 28. The former WNBA All-Star had a game-high in both points (22) and blocked shots (3), while snagging 9 rebounds in the process.
The Fever had 5 players score in double-digits while earning the victory, led by forward Candice Dupree’s 17 points. The Fever shot a respectful 7-15 from three-point range, while the Sky only shot 1-8 from distance. The Fever also won the turnover battle. They only had 8 turnovers to the Sky’s 17 turnovers.
Filling in for an under the weather Stefanie Dolson, Sky center Imani Boyette recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds vs. the Fever. Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot also chipped in a gam- high 8 assists.
In the last June 10 meeting vs. the Stars, the Sky shot a sizzling 55.4% from the field as they cruised to a 85-81 overtime win.
Sky’s season leader in points per a game, Allie Quigley, scored 9 of her 16 points in overtime, including back-to-back 3-pointers. Stefanie Dolson finished with a game-high 25 points, and scored her 1,000 point in doing so. Forward Tamera Young had an impressive outing as well. She cluttered the box-score with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals.
The Stars had a remarkable 54 bench points and 12 steals vs. the Sky. They were led by Moriah Jefferson with 18 points, 5 steals, and followed by Dearica Hamby’s 17 points, 4 steals.
The Stars are looking for their first win of the season. Their most recent game was a 78-87 loss to the Western Conference powerhouse Minnesota Lynx (11-1).
