Sky Take on Defending Champions, L.A. Sparks
The Chicago Sky (1-6) will open up a three game road trip on Tuesday night when they square off with the 2016 WNBA Champion, Los Angeles Sparks. Chicago will look to end their losing streak, as they fell to the Phoenix Mercury last Thursday at Allstate Arena, 99-91.
The Sky had their best offensive output of the season, despite the loss. They shot a season high 53% and tallied a season high 91 points. Chicago forward Stefanie Dolson drained a career-high six three-pointers and poured in 21 points, six assists and five rebounds.
This will be the first of three meeting between the Sky and Sparks in 2017. Chicago will look to reverse their fortune against L.A. The Sparks took all three regular season meetings last season. The Sky and Sparks also met each other in the Semi-Finals last year, where the Sparks took the series 3-1.
Led by two-time WNBA MVP, Candace Parker, Los Angeles is off to a 3-2 start with wins over New York, Washington and Seattle. Parker is off to a torrid start, as she’s stuffing the stat sheet. She’s averaging 15.8 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 5.4 APG and 2.0 BPG.
The Sky will look for an answer for Parker this time around. Last year in seven games against Chicago, Parker averaged 20.2 PPG, 9.1 RPG and dished out 5.1 APG.
Along with Parker, L.A. also gets valuable contributions from Nneka Ogwumike, who is tied for the league lead in scoring with 21.4 PPG. She’s also third in the lead in field goal percentage 59%. Guard, Chelsea Gray, also chips in with 15.8 PPG – tied for Parker for second on the team.
Chicago guard Cappie Pondexter is off to a quick start this season as she’s averaging 14.0 PPG and 8.3 APG, which leads the WNBA. She will look to carry over the success she enjoyed against the Sparks last year, to this season. Last year she averaged 10.5 points against L.A.
Tipoff is scheduled for 9:30pm CT and can be seen on NBATV and WNBA League Pass. You can also follow the action live on the Sky mobile app, available for download at the App Store or on Google Play! Also make sure to follow along on Twitter @WNBAChicagoSky!
