After Chicago’s loss to Seattle on Wednesday, the Sky look to bounce back in a battle against the Dallas Wings on Friday, July 20, at Wintrust Arena.
FACING THE WINGS
In their third season in Dallas, the No. 4 Wings have a 20-13 record overall against the Sky. The game Friday will mark the teams’ second of three games played, and the season series will wrap up on Tuesday, July 31.
In the first game between the two teams, Dallas came out victorious, 108-85. Sky rookie Diamond DeShields finished the game with 20 points, four rebounds and three steals. Alaina Coates led the bench in scoring with 10 points. Dallas’ offense came out firing as center Liz Cambage was a bit too much. She finished with 37 points, a career-high for her at the time, and 10 rebounds.
Most recently, Cambage posted a 53-point performance in a win over New York on Tuesday, as she broke the record for most points in a game in WNBA history, previously held by Riquna Williams (51).
Chicago looks to snap its four-game losing streak, as they sit No. 11 in the WNBA in the standings column. Dallas attempts to move up from No. 4 spot, with a record of 13-9. With a win, the Wings can inch closer to a top-3 seed as All-Star weekend approaches.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Stefanie Dolson
Stefanie Dolson finished her most recent game against the Seattle Storm with a team high 6 rebounds and a season high 14 points. Dolson has shot 100 percent (17-17) from the free throw line this season; look for her to continue to take advantage of scoring opportunities as they arise.
Kahleah Copper
Copper led the bench in scoring posting 14 points and three rebounds. Head Coach and General Manager Amber Stocks spoke about Copper on Wednesday stating, “Copper is ready to step in when needed. Some games it may be 30 minutes and other days it may be 10, but she has that consistent focus that it takes to be good.”
Allie Quigley
Quigley was recently named a WNBA All-Star for the second consecutive year. Averaging 16.1 points per game and leading the team in scoring in the 2018 campaign, Quigley has proven to be a lethal weapon for the Sky. She sits fourth in the league in three-pointers made (47) and shoots a 43.5 percent clip from beyond the arc.
