Chicago Sky to Host Health and Wellness Education Expo

The Chicago Sky are proud to host a Health and Wellness Education Expo presented by Walgreens with supporting sponsor and hospitality host Harmony Health Plan, Inc., on August 20, 2017. The event will be held in the Skyline Room at Allstate Arena, from 3:15-4:30 p.m. CT. This year’s annual Health and Wellness game, which includes the Sky’s #GETPINK initiative in support of breast health, is set for 5:00 p.m. CT against the Seattle Storm.

“We are extremely happy to partner up with Walgreens and Harmony to further educate and promote healthy living to families in the Chicagoland area,” said James Burda, Vice President of Marketing Partnerships. “As one of our Sky Cares Foundation pillars, Health and Wellness is extremely important to us and teaming up with great partners who support our cause to teach the community about healthy living is a bonus.”

Walgreens will offer Flu shots at the Health and Wellness Expo, including free of charge vouchers to the first 100 attendees that do not have flu vaccine insurance coverage and are unable to pay for it. This wellness benefit is on behalf of Walgreens and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Additionally, the first 100 attendees will receive a Walgreens youth backpack, and fans will have the chance to will a $200 Walgreens gift card, which will be presented to one lucky attendee at halftime of the Sky vs. Storm contest.

“We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Chicago Sky as a sponsor of this health and wellness expo,” said Rona Fourte, Director of Supplier Diversity. “The event not only builds on our commitment to supplier diversity and inclusion, but it is also a demonstration of our mission to champion everyone’s right to be happy and healthy.”

2017 marks the first year for the sponsor-partnership with Harmony Health Plan and the Sky as well. In 2016 Harmony launched their EmPowerHer. EmPowerMe. EmPowerUs. community health initiative to educate women, men and the community on preventive health services and resources needed to help them live better healthier lives. Sky forward, Jessica Breland, who overcame Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, serves as the EmPowerHer player ambassador to help promote Harmony’s monthly health topics, events and outreach for (11) critical health measures affecting Cook County residents.

“We launched the EmPowerHer health initiative because we recognized that women are so busy taking care of everyone else, they often lose track of their own health and wellness needs. We are excited about our partnership with the Chicago Sky and know that together we can impact the communities and neighborhoods we both serve. We are truly stronger together,” said Miguel Torres, Harmony’s senior director of field sales and marketing.

Additional participating service providers are: AARP, Beauty in Beauty Out Foundation, Chicago Center for Orthopedics at Weiss, Chiro One, KIND Bar, Lydia Health Care, Oak Street Health, Physician’s Immediate Care and A Silver Lining Foundation.
