Facing the Sparks
Once again, the Sparks and the Sky will go head-to-head, but this time in Chicago. After a tough road series where the team went 0-3, the Sky are looking forward to returning home to Wintrust Arena.
In their last matchup on Sunday, the Sky trailed most of the game and couldn’t make a comeback as the Sparks won 77-59. Forward Nneka Ogwumike and Chicago-native center Candace Parker played well for the Sparks as they combined to score 40 of the Sparks’ 77 points. The Sky will have to find ways to stop them on defense. Overall, Chicago is 4-9 against the Sparks at home, but they plan to even up the season series on Sunday June 17.
Los Angeles is coming off a big win on Friday where they defeated Elena Delle Donne and the Washington Mystics 97-86 and had six players score in double figures, including all five starters.
Players to watch
Rookie forward Diamond DeShields went off last game against the Seattle Storm, as she finished with a team-high 22 points. Look her outstanding play to continue in Sunday’s matchup against the Sparks. The rookie shot 62.5 percent from the 3-point line shooting 5-for-8 from downtown.
Guard Allie Quigley dazzled in her third game back from injury scoring 20 points. The nine-year veteran found her groove after sitting out two games before the start of the west coast road trip with a strained hip abductor.
Forward Cheyenne Parker ranks No. 5 in the WNBA in rebounding. She grabbed 10 rebounds in her last game on Tuesday against Seattle to complete her third double-double of the season. Look for her to crash both the defensive and offensive boards, creating high-percentage scoring opportunities for her teammates.
Center Astou Ndour had a breakout game against Seattle. She recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
3-for-3
The Chicago Sky currently have three players in the top-10 in the WNBA in 3-point percentage: guard Linnae Harper, guard Courtney Vandersloot and forward Alex Montgomery. Chicago currently ranks No. 6 in 3-point percentage at 34.8 percent.
